Re: focus on animal or dot

An old tip from Olympic great Jack Writer that helped me, back when I was practicing more: "Thinking about follow-through before the shot will help you break a clean shot."

Re: DAN THEODORE

This is a terrible shock and a terrible loss to the Silhouette community. Dan was a superior human being, a gentleman, and a dedicated advocate for our sport. He was kind to me personally and someone I truly admired. He was happy and showed others how to be happy. "Living well is the best revenge." ...

Re: 6.5-06

As others have pointed out, it would be worth experimenting with lighter loads which means medium speed (as opposed to slower) powders. 4895 range powders. Varget and such. Find your Chick-pig-turkey BULLET and load a somewhat heavier bullet for rams. I always find the key accuracy variable to be th...

Congratulations to Dustin. The tournament I most freqently day-dreamed about winning, back when I daydreamed about such things.

Re: Clark Williams

I am very, very sorry to hear this. I watched Clark hit 10 pigs in a Coonass Team Shoot with an old Remington Nylon 12 bolt action. He was elated when the 10th one fell. He spun around and yelled to the crowd: "Deal with it." Everybody just roared. I asked him about the trigger and he said; "About 8...

This. It's high-quality ammo. If you happened upon a lot your rifle likes it could be as good as you'll find.

Re: Marlin 336W, 30-30, 20" barrel

The average 336 is more accurate than the average 94 Winchester. In my case (one of each) considerably more.

Re: Ironman

Actually, it won't have much to do with speed. Only distance. You know a rough approximation is the best you can do, right? Assuming you're average weight, reasonably fit and reasonably efficient, you'll use around 130 calories per mile traveling on foot, walking or running. Hit google for the best ...

Re: Fallen Fowl

The first shootoff I remember being in was at Winnsboro lo, these many years ago. It was for something like 5th in AA, one match. The line was full, lots of people watching. As a newby, I got a little nervous. I couldn't get the dot to settle, ran out of time, finally just jerked the trigger in a pa...

Re: Fallen Fowl

Kitty, I believe that was Greg, but the time I remember, it was just a 180. Pig ended up with both feet on the stand, but facing the opposite direction. Funny that they'll balance on the front foot. You see a 90 degree turn now and then.

Re: Fallen Fowl

I was spotting for a shooter who hit one dead center and drove it straight to the backstop where we had stretched fresh chicken (!) wire to help the setters pick them up. The chicken was trampolined off the wire and back onto the stand. The shooter was good enough to watch the whole thing through th...
