Re: bolt failure

Another anecdote ....my client had a brand new Marlin in 45-70 and bought a box of 350 gr Hornady ammo. During his attempts at sight-in shot number 14 from the box detonated destroying the rifle and putting shrapnel in his arm. The detonation was catastrophic literally consuming even the cartridge c...

Re: bolt failure

I suggest that the cartridge detonated...it was probably defective in as much as the damage even to a poor made action required considerable pressure. As an anecdote my clients were making zip guns using antenna tubing for barrels. They fired 22's repeatedly and good enough to kill. No doubt a weak ...

Re: NRA Score Reporting Form

In response to Sporty's observation, most of the competitors at my recent match had their new classification cards indicating that they sent in their old scores. However several had no clue that they were to send in their old scores so I copied and sent them in for them. Not everyone reads this site...

Re: NRA Score Reporting Form

Interestingly we had our first high power club match March 24. We shoot two 40's . I used the new form. I opened up the tournament site, put in the tournament ID number, hit the score here at the bottom and the new portal requires the tournament ID again and an Access Code. But Willis I ain't gots o...

Re: New NRA Competitions Portal

Easy access and sign up. My classes are actually correct and my rotten scores from the 2018 Nationals show up (darn!) Our first HP match is this coming Sunday and I'll report back on my experience with electronic scoring ;)

Re: Bench Rest Rifle Club Regional entry form

Remember to include your NRA number on the entry form. If you don't have one then use your NRA competitor number. If you don't have either that's OK. A legible and valid email is also a good idea :ympeace:

Re: NRA Score Reporting Form

I have several questions that I'm sure someone can answer: a) the reporting form requires inputting NRA # , Names and address for each competitor for each match...how is that a reduction of work for the match director. Seems to me that the 'books' were less work and related problems; b) how does rep...

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

Actually the canadian sweater zipped from the ' other side (its canadian !) and there's very little padding on both shoulders. One wouldn't wear it alone,,,its pretty thin. With a shotgun vest it just provided a reduction of slippage or movement of the vest...the leather vest is superior...and if th...

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

I think the view of the shooting sweater I alluded to has been strained. The extra padding and support is illusory and I submit the current ubiquitous leather vest is significantly more supportive, rigid and pulse deadening; if they weren't the old school shotgun vest and sweat shirt would not have ...

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

I'm sorry but a sweat shirt is hardly excess padding. And I take my vest off between relays, you see the climatic conditions in Missouri in July make any clothing uncomfortable....no matter what i'm not shooting in the buff. In the summertime most everyone in a leather vest is sweating and I suppose...

Heraclitus was a wise man. But these days since every shot I take seems to be mysterious I have adopted the philosophy of Alfred E. Newman.."What me Worry?"

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

Conard and his spotter are both wearing Canadian shooting sweaters, a then popular xtc item (still used there) . Its cotton and we wore them under our trap/skeet vests which have a shoulder pad. They are used to provide some sweat absorption but mainly the padding of the sweater was used to reduce p...

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

I was there in 1986 just not in the top 10 although Louis Black, one of our companions ended up 1st in A. The towel was for sweat...it was warm and humid. Most of us shot 308s but 7-08s were appearing and 7 br's and 7 TCU's. Conard proved the principle that good scores come from the shooter not his ...
