Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

Actually the canadian sweater zipped from the ' other side (its canadian !) and there's very little padding on both shoulders. One wouldn't wear it alone,,,its pretty thin. With a shotgun vest it just provided a reduction of slippage or movement of the vest...the leather vest is superior...and if th...

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

I think the view of the shooting sweater I alluded to has been strained. The extra padding and support is illusory and I submit the current ubiquitous leather vest is significantly more supportive, rigid and pulse deadening; if they weren't the old school shotgun vest and sweat shirt would not have ...

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

I'm sorry but a sweat shirt is hardly excess padding. And I take my vest off between relays, you see the climatic conditions in Missouri in July make any clothing uncomfortable....no matter what i'm not shooting in the buff. In the summertime most everyone in a leather vest is sweating and I suppose...

Re: Big Changes

Heraclitus was a wise man. But these days since every shot I take seems to be mysterious I have adopted the philosophy of Alfred E. Newman.."What me Worry?"

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

Conard and his spotter are both wearing Canadian shooting sweaters, a then popular xtc item (still used there) . Its cotton and we wore them under our trap/skeet vests which have a shoulder pad. They are used to provide some sweat absorption but mainly the padding of the sweater was used to reduce p...

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

I was there in 1986 just not in the top 10 although Louis Black, one of our companions ended up 1st in A. The towel was for sweat...it was warm and humid. Most of us shot 308s but 7-08s were appearing and 7 br's and 7 TCU's. Conard proved the principle that good scores come from the shooter not his ...

Re: NRA Score Reporting Form

Sporty....good idea. However, why is this forum being used to circulate the reporting form? Shouldn't match directors be directly communicated with and provided the forms, explicit instructions etc? Was this conversion planned? Is Nancy Pelosi behind this? :ymdevil:

Re: Big Changes

Regarding a comment that our sport is repetitious, slow, etc. Perhaps one should examine bench rest, across the course, PRS, etc. Most shooting sports are repetitious, slow, lack innovation and defy instant gratification. Our sport appealed to hunters....note the targets....the 'new' games like PRS ...

Re: Big Changes

I'm in favor of online reporting. It's easier for a match director (I don't have to collect books and enter scores quickly to let folks go on their way). I don't think most competitors like books I think most competitors live with what they got. We should be concerned about smoothing out the transit...

Re: Big Changes

One does what one must. Since your season's started is there an online reporting site?

Re: Big Changes

Easy does it. There's an ongoing discussion with Aaron regarding the need and practicality of sending in score pages for each discipline. Quite frankly just like with the books, the match director checked your classification and in this transition the match director should be able to 'certify' both ...

Re: Big Changes

Al. your suggestion is a good one. It would streamline things. Especially since the books only evidence the two previous years high scores anyway and ANY downward reclassification has to be by petition after 12 consecutive lower than current class scores (presumably provable by the petitioner) once ...

Re: Big Changes

It seems to me that this transition can be easier if the NRA simply lets the match director certify the competitor's class based upon their previous book entries rather than requiring scanning and forwarding book entries to establish a 'history'.....obviously a new shooter would be handled based upo...

Re: Big Changes

As a historical note, back in the bad old days one had to buy a score card for each silhouette discipline they participated in. Each card cost $6.00. The cost was and remains incidental...not like its going to break the bank. My club matches will always be sanctioned, whether NBRSA, IDPA, NRA, CMP e...

Re: Big Changes

I don't think the change is a bad thing but its implementation seems awkward ....but the good news is no more books!
