Re: 6.5mm Bullet for the Close Animals

Good to hear you’ve made progress.
Look into the longer bullets 108,120,123,130’s.
Shop for price and availability.
You don’t have to drive them as fast for reducing recoil. The net effect is the same, knocking over the animals with the least recoil and best accuracy.

Re: 6.5mm Bullet for the Close Animals

With so little neck holding on to that bullet, that sounds like it is part of your problem. Good luck and maybe consider a longer bullet for the first three. It is where most of your score comes from.

Re: 6.5mm Bullet for the Close Animals

It surprises me about the faster powder, are you sticking with recommended OAL due to magazine restrictions? If you can, maybe try seating the bullet farther out, not deeper and increasing the neck tension to at least .004 or more. You need to try and keep at least one caliber worth in the neck. You...

Re: 6.5mm Bullet for the Close Animals

Have you tried a normal seating depth and a faster powder for the lighter bullets.
Like Benchmark or H-322, I think it is the timing of your pressure spike.
A faster powder will help seal the case mouth a little sooner than Varget.
107's or 108's should work fine.

Re: 45gr CCI Suppressor ammo for lever guns?

Michael, I'm trying this out now and a few others. Accuracy for this one has been very good so far. Worked well in the wind, not sure if it has any extra pushing power like I experience with other lead loads. Federal makes the same, but it is copper coated and doesn't seem to have as good accuracy a...

Re: Key Hole with my new Henry and Hornady

Does anyone know what the twist is on the Henry compared to other rifles?

In the old days, my 57m liked the 50gr Federal. With a scope 1” at 100 yards.

Thanks Dennis

Re: 2019 Nationals

Jeanne, what is with the extra day?
1 day smallbore, 1 day PC , 2 days Long range.
I count 4 days, but it looks like 5.
I hope they made a mistake and first day starts on the 5th of July (or better for me, the 6th)

Thanks, Dennis

Re: 2019 Nationals

Thanks for the info, shame they all ways seem to plan these things over a holiday, most likely will miss the first day or two. Never fond of being away from my family over major holidays. :( I like the new format, I have always thought it should end with a bang and not a pop. We ran our California S...

Re: .22mag -again - ammo selection

I like the 50 gr Federal, one and only time I tested more than 15+ years ago, 1 to 1.25" at 100 yards with my 57M.
back in the day, so your results may vary.

pretty good knockdown, but none are ever perfect.

a couple of 40's and 39's have been shot with 22 mag.

Re: knock over big bore rams

So far for me, I've been okay with a subsonic load of 1080 fps. Simple testing at Raton showed around 90%+ went down with one hit. Working on a heavier bullet, I'll be testing a 215gr and a 220 gr, version in the next few weeks. The lead bullets at slower speeds seem to do much better than the jacke...
