Re: Scoped Lever action silhouette

.44 Mag We are going to have a petition this Saturday at the Ben Avery Lever Gun Match. A lot of shooters here want the rule about lenses in the rear sight reinstated, too. I think you should start a petition in PA and then send it to Aaron Farmer. I do not understand the reason this rule was rescin...

Re: Silhouette Rifle Rules Changes - 2018

Craig, why don't you send your letter to Aaron Farmer, the Deputy Director of the Silhouette Dept at the NRA?
I would be interested in his response.
Aso, I think we should have a listing of the Silhouette Committee members with their addresses.

Re: Topeka Matches?

Hi, Jeanie. I have passed the baton to Robert Henningsen. We have purchased a place in Phoenix so that will be our winter home. Summers for the foreseeable future will be spent at the Whittington Center. So we won't be in Kansas except for 2 to 3 months of the year. I can't run the Topeka matches wi...

Re: CSLC Spring Roundup

Al, sorry you're not having the Spring Roundup Match in 2019. It's a shame some of the other shooters didn't step up to organize the match.

I see that Fiocchi is making .22 Mag at their Ozark, Mo. plant. Has anyone tried it?

Re: .22mag -again - ammo selection

The power of the .22 mag on steel silhouettes is just enough in most cases, given the weight of the bullet--40 to 50 grains. The issue is how the targets are set at the various ranges and the weight of the rams in particular. I have stated previously that I used the .22 mag all summer at Whittington...

Re: .22mag -again - ammo selection

Michael, your suggested use of CCI FMJ on chickens, pigs, and turkeys and Hornady Critical Defense 45gr on rams is exactly the combo I've been using this year in the pistol cartridge lever gun. I have not failed to knock over a ram that I hit with the Hornady round at any range I used it, except for...

Re: new to Lever Action - need rifle

I believe it was 1986 when Marlin started using the hammer block safety on the 39A. You can usually calculate the year of manufacture starting in the 1970's by taking the first two digits of the serial number and subtracting that from 100. For example, if the serial number starts with 21, then the r...

Re: Vintage Barrel Reline

Brent, I've had two barrels relined: a 32-20 and 25-20. Both are 1894 Marlins. Interestingly, the 25-20 has a 26" barrel and the gunsmith found the barrel was bent when he went to drill out the old rifling. Of course, he straightened it before relining. Both barrels shoot well, 100% better than befo...

Pistolero, sorry I haven't got back to you until now. I've just finished 11 straight days of match shooting at the Whittington Center. Now, about the matches at Topeka. The next match is August 11, Saturday. Capital City Gun Club, Topeka, KS. The range is located just west of Topeka on I-70. Take th...

Re: How consistent are Speer 2007 130-grain .308 bullets?

Jason, I have used the Speer 130 and 170 grain bullets for years in my Marlin 1894 .30-30 because they have the best ballistic coefficient of all the major .308 bullet manufacturers. I have never weighed the bullets. I can get 1 1/2" five shot groups at 200 yards consistently. I don't need any bette...
