Re: H4198 or H4895?

Dick I was looking at my can of 4198 this morning and they had 28!!! grns of powder listed with a 255 jacketed bullet Winchester brass and a CCI 200 primer. I'm not going anywhere close to 28 grs. I'll start with 18 and see what happens.

thanks,
Brent

Re: H4198 or H4895?

Yes, it is a .38-55. Don't know how I missed including that information.

Thanks.

H4198 or H4895?

For the last couple of years, I have shot Blackpowder at the Nationals. I think I am the only one there that does. It's fun, I don't do well, but I enjoy it and I don't take CLA very seriously except as serious fun. But one reason I haven't done well is the barrel on that rifle (a rebored Marlin 189...

Re: your 39A just got more valuable

Since that was a 2017 special, I'd be more interested in how many they actually sold to customers.

Re: Scope power for Bpcr

28" will be fine. Choose balance over sight radius. My Best Gun is 33". It is a beast to hold offhand.

Re: Scope power for Bpcr

Maybe the air rifle fits poorly? In BPCR scope scores are very slightly better on average than iron sight scores. Often they are worse, but on average, I think slightly higher, but less than one animal I suspect. It would be interesting to do a formal test of the data. Higher power scopes on BPCRs m...

Re: Scope power for Bpcr

Maybe it is. But I doubt it. What scopes provide isn't magnification for meaningfully greater precision, it's simply seeing the target and doing it w/o eye fatigue. Iron sights will allow a 1/4 MOA aiming precision. That 1/4 MOA is not a limiting factor in this game. In bulleye benchrest shooting, t...

Re: 2018 Silhouette Goals!

Don't get so worried about achieving a goal that you forget to break the trigger when the sight picture looks just right...

That's one of my goals

Re: 2018 Silhouette Goals!

I would like to go all year without missing a pig in BPCR. It is definitely doable, but it takes a lot of concentration to do it every time.

I wonder if anyone has?

I suppose that if I do it at the first match of the season, I should just quit then and there, but that's not going to happen.

Re: FIBER OPTIC vs APERTURE

Black animals shoot just as well as white ones with an aperture front sight. However, most folks find that they need a larger hole for white targets, esp if the sun is bright.

Re: 2018 Silhouette Goals!

In Levergun, I'd be happy to move up a class in pistol and rifle categories. Just shoot respectively.

In BPCR - scope and Irons - win a national championship. And make Master class in irons at last.

Like every year, I've got a plan and a secret weapon.

Re: Got paint?

As much paint as some of you use, why not contract the company of your choice and ask for a wholesale price directly. You are buying more paint than most mom and pop hardware stores are going to sell in a year. Why not become a "dealer"?

lens for tang sight

Can anyone direct me to someone that makes lens for the Marbles tang sight? I have a friend that might benefit from one on his 73 Winchester. I know they are out there somewhere, but I don't know where.

Thanks,
Brent
