Re: Another front sight quetion

Loctite 290 (wicking grade, green). That's the stuff I use. Anything better? Possibly, but I've never had any problems with movement.

Re: Reloading

... a tumbler to clean your brass ... Now, I'm taking another look at reloading. A Vibratory Case Tumbler seems inexpensive ($40). Would I need an ultrasonic cleaner too? If you're looking at the reloading path (again?) it might be a good idea to look at the combined price of the vibratory case pol...

Re: Scoped Lever action silhouette

After reading through the "other" thread, it seems to me that the basis for the discussion is that a lot of us older competitors inevitably suffer defects in our eyesight, to the point that aperture sights become "difficult". The problem has perhaps been exacerbated by the rule change that prohibits...

Re: Silhouette Rifle Rules Changes - 2018

49er, I want to shoot the Martini in the 22 BPCR, not lever action. Plus, it doesn't have a tube magazine. I can't believe it's not legal for that. From the most recent rules that I have: - 1. 22 BPCRA Rifle - A single shot rifle, originally made for black powder cartridges, of United States manufa...

Re: bolt failure

I don't know. I just welded the swinger back together at the range. There is a bit of force there. I doubt that the swinger failed after just one, or even a few shots. More likely been hammered over a good period of time, and finally succumbed to a fatigue fracture. Yes, there is a good bit of forc...

Re: Silhouette Rifle Rules Changes - 2018

Couple of things: - Whilst a Martini action rifle is operated by a lever, it will never be a "lever action" rifle. It is, and can only ever be, a Martini action, which is a tilting or dropping block, but not falling block in the sense that we know Winchester Hi/Lo Wall etc. Why would anybody want si...

Re: is .356 legal for CLA?

From another thread. I don't think Mr. Farmer writes or interperts the rules. I wouldn't feel comfortable until I get word from the Silhouette committee. Those are the people who will make the decision. That's a valid suggestion. Present it to the Silhouette Committee at the end of the year for a de...

Re: Silhouette Rifle Rules Changes - 2018

I’m going to go way out on a limb here and state that the no lens in the rear sight is an oversight. The rules before clearly stated that a lens was allowed in the rear sight but not the front. If this is not an oversight, it is a horrible injustice. Most of our shooters are seniors and a lot of th...

Re: "Post or Bead insert..."

It is in rule 3.1.3 a. It is disappointing that the Rule Book (revised May 2018) as currently available (here: - https://competitions.nra.org/competition-resources/rule-books/ ) does not incorporate the addendum that had previously been posted at that link, from where I downloaded a copy in Novembe...

Re: is .356 legal for CLA?

Based in an undated letter emanating from the hand of Aaron Farmer stating that for the 2018 Nationals the 308MExp was excluded because of the need to more closely define cartridge types (rimmed, semi-rimmed etc.) I sent an email to NRA, for the attention of A. Farmer on Feb 10th. I have not yet rec...

FWIW, I say "Aperture". Very small, yes, and filled with a light transmitting fiber.

Re: is .356 legal for CLA?

This topic has been "discussed" at some length in the past, But I don't believe it has been resolved, definitively. Much has been said about rimmed/semi-rimmed, and the semantics of the terms. Initial discussions about the 308Marlin Exp eventuated in an undated communication from Aaron Farmer who sa...

Re: is .356 legal for CLA?

356 Winchester - Semi-rimmed, surely.
Which puts it in the same basket as the 308 Marlin Express, along with the same doubt about eligibility.

Re: This works - Adjustable Aperture

I’m not convinced the front sight combination will conform to the overall length rule. 3.1.3 Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette Rifle – a. A front sight anti-glare tube, which may be no longer than 1 1/8” to include any attachments and no larger than a 3/4” outside diameter, may be used. Oh, sure it wi...
