Re: What rear sight for silhouette? Winchester Legacy 94

to reach 200m with my soft loads in my Legacy 94 i had to place an old MVA sight base about 3/16" thick that luckily had predrilled holes matching, and underneath that specialty Marbles tang sight's base-- also found that Midwest Gun works sold a factory Winchester pistol grip buttstock with shotgun...

bank widths for 22bpcr CPTR

After 2 yrs construction our new rifle range to 200 yds opens Saturday. I hope to measure the available widths at 50, 100, 150, 200ys with the idea of a 22BPCR shoot in King George VA. Have NRA BPCR silhouette bank mins and maxes for CPTR and could use a 2/5 multiplier for rough ideas for the 22 siz...

Re: Rifle for big bore lever gun

I also like the Win 94 Commemoratives (esp the 1866 or Teddy Roosevelt"brass" receivers and the Buffalo Bill) as they are heavy ( helps offhand steadiness and weight no prob since i am not dragging it thru the woods and also dampens recoil) with 26 in octagonal barrels for sight radius and once they...

Re: Vintage Barrel relining deux...

John Taylor of Taylor Machine of Washington state relined a 30-30 levergun to 32-40 and made a tack driver
Lee Shaver of MOalso relined a single shot to 32-20 and it also is extremely accurate

Re: .38-55 loads and Lyman 250 gr FN

Brent Lyman has a newer mold version of that bullet that as cast in bp alloys drops about 0.382 to fit oversize bores the older molds will drop 378 or so' and youtube shows Wind Whitehill---sadly just deceased--hitting an 800 yd gong routinely with 10 grains Unique in a marlin 336 lever action in 38...

Re: Hunter Pistol and the Future

I agree with twidpa's point--too specialized for the firearm/caliber. I have a modern uberti '73 winchester in 357 mag that i had slicked up for cowboy action shooting (1) sport. I also use it in NRA pistol caliber lever action silhouette (2) sports. AND i use it in 2 different clubs' 200 yard offha...

Re: "New" lever gun silhouette challenge

What pistol cartridge will reliably take down full size rams at 200 yds? I can personally vouch for the 44-40 loaded with 240 grain comercial hard cast (magma mold, crimp groove to meplat distance same as 200 grain 44-40 bullet, not the 240 gr keith-type) bullet over 23.5 grains Re 7--a SAAMI safe 4...

Re: 35 Rem for CLA-- legal but used much?

I was thinking of a pre microgroove marlin in 35 Rem perhaps the problems mentioned by the first 2 replies were due to microgroove barrel the later repliies might have also been a pro microgroove barrel?

35 Rem for CLA-- legal but used much?

AM thinking of shooting cast bullets in a pre microgroove marlin 336. Most loads I find as in Lyman's cast bullet hbk are very hot and intended for hunting; I figure a softer load and lighter 357 bullets should work well up to the turkey. IS this cartridge actually shot much in CLA and if so can any...

Re: Henry in 44-40 for CLA loads ok?

David i went to a nearby IHMSA big bore match this weekend where they kindly let me shoot my first full size targets under match conditions and the 44-40 easily outperformed the 45-70 for me -- only problem was they had to prop the rams up due to killer winds blowing them over (range apparently face...

Ken not sure if you seek jacketed or cast but leadheads bullets sells online hard cast, gas-checked 180 gr. and 2 styles of 200 gr. 357 Mag bullets Bought some myself but haven't tried them on the 200 meter rams just yet.

Henry in 44-40 for CLA loads ok?

Going to try the 44-40 figure 8 -8.5 grains Unique over 200 grain cast which, while soft load, is very accurate in my rifle for c and p. I presume it will take the pig down at 100 m, yes? Currently don't have any place to practice on full-sized footed critters and season starts real soon For turkeys...
