Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

Some body shapes are better for silhouette than others. That is true. My experience is that clearcut, easy to interpret rules encourage people to participate in a sport not discourage them. My observations are that most of the recent nationals champions wear clothing suited to the temperature. In ho...

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

With this variety of interpretation on Rule 3.12 there should be a definitive clarification of what that rule means. It appears that it can mean different things to different people. Clarification before an issue comes up is always better than the disruption of the protest/jury method on a busy matc...

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

Snake, Your interpretation of Rule 3.12 is incorrect. The average citizen in St. Louis just sitting around in the summer heat is not wearing a sweatshirt. Sweatshirts give a unfair advantage by dulling pulse and bunching up padding behind the target-side arm or elbow. The purpose built XTC sweatshir...

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

60 degrees 98 % humidity as I type this. Frogs are croaking. That means snakes are active. The swamp behind our property feeds into the big swamp known as Richland swamp. The county newspaper yesterday featured hog hunters with pictures of two huge rattlers from the big swamp. Then there are insects...

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

Dang 9, Ole Miss is in the Northern part of our state. It is much "colder" there. The high temp. will probably be as low as 55 degrees there today.

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

I wonder if the early use of XTC undergarments prompted the first sentence "clothing normally suitable for existing climatic temperatures" in Section 3.12 of the current rulebook. 3.12 Clothing - Commercial type trap and skeet vests (sleeveless) and shotgun shooting shirts are permitted as well as c...

Re: SK Long Range Match

The specifications appear to be identical to sk biathlon. Do you think there are any unspecified differences or is it biathlon in a different box? Years ago there were some special runs of tenex in this velocity range. Some people liked it a lot because they thought it had less wind drift. It always...

Re: NRA Score Reporting Form

I do not understand why they are using spreadsheets and pdf files when a website based portal system would be easier? As in: 1. Click a link on the NRA website. 2. Match director enters his/her username. 3. Match director enters his/her password. 4. Match director enters competitor number or nra mem...

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

According to the history article on the Ridgway website, 1986 was the first year the Silhouette Nationals were held there. Not disagreeing about the heat in 1986; we were not there, but why in the pictures are they both wearing sweatshirts? We are curious if we will be able to function in Pennsylvan...

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

Also notice the towel around the spotters neck and continuing inside the vest and under the recoil pad probably done because the sun had burned his neck and the heavy recoiling rifle of the time was beating the tar out of his shoulder. Could other people post up some more stories and articles about ...

Re: His view of Ridgway by Conard Bernhardt

Allen, you replied that you missed the heyday of silhouette. I do not think so. We are living in the heyday of silhouette and should enjoy it. Just look at that one newspaper picture of Conard. Wood stock probably with holes drilled to make weight. Skim bedded not pillar bedded to save weight. Proba...

Re: Big Changes

Regarding the comment about silhouette being slow and repetitious, consider this quote by Heraclitus. "No man ever steps through the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he is not the same man." If you spend enough years in silhouette, you know that no shot you make is exactly the same...

Re: WTT Leupold BR 24D

Does the 1/2 MOA Dot Leupold installed have tapered crosshairs or straight cross hairs?
Do you want a 6.5-20X EFR or a "regular" 6.5-20X with target turrets?

Re: Big Changes

So much concern about electronic records when the vast majority of ranges we have experienced do not even have an adequate bathroom. Nasty unmaintained porta-johns, bathrooms too far away from the firing line to walk to, some just outhouses with a hole in the ground and some that stay locked where y...
