Re: How many shoot with a variable and how many with a fixed power scope

It depends. For a dedicated silhouette rifle, I like a fixed power for the simplicity and lower weight. On rifles that are set up for silhouette, but may also go hunting, it makes more sense to use a variable power scope. More recently, my sons have gotten into hunting and frequently need to "borrow...

Re: How do you know when you need more magnification?

Allen, some years ago I also liked the T16, and borrowing a friends T24 persuaded me that more was better. Then I made the mistake of using a friends (more like Tempter in Chief) Leupold FX III 25x40, and got hooked on the better glass. This is why I will never, under any circumstances, look through...

Re: The Fool In The Mirror

Remind her that this is still a damn site cheaper than a girl friend. Huh. I might just pass on that. She's a redhead, see. In the twenty-six years we've been together, I've made her mad only twice -- both times in the first two months -- had to replace most of my house windows the first time, and ...

Re: How do you know when you need more magnification?

The most magnification I've ever used was a Leupold FX3 25x40, although I tried a friends an FX3 30x40 and thought that was too much. More recently I've been happier with 18-20x, but last week I put a better scope on my favorite rifle, and during sight in the targets looked huge with the scope set o...

Re: Old Fort gun club Van Buren Arkansas

OnaginOffagin; OFGC already has everything for silhouette matches - targets, target stands, and berms - since the program has existed for approximately 20 years, so there was no new cost to the club. But local attendance has been zero, and the board feels these changes will be of greater benefit to ...

Re: Old Fort gun club Van Buren Arkansas

And now I have to retract that. Because of the heat, I need to cancel tomorrow’s match. This heat is a killer, we don't have a cooling shed, and I don't want to get anyone hurt. Hope to see you in September.

Re: Cut the Barrel?

Barrels are surrounded by mythology we're mostly afraid to challenge because of the cost, so too often we're frightened into inaction. Fluting may remove 8 ounces from the barrel, but since that weight loss is distributed along the length of the barrel, it will remove less felt weight from the nose ...

You definitely want to use standard velocity at Chickens because of the lead spray, and I would even prohibit it at pigs just for safety sake. Turkeys and Rams if you must.
