Re: New National Record

Thanks to all of you for your nice comments. The weather conditions were a challenge. You know the song--Some Days are Diamonds.... Last Saturday I had one. A big thanks to Jeanne & Glen Ring who made the match possible and went out of their way to make sure everybody had a good time. I hope they do...

Re: Change in venue for 2015 CLA Nationals

I talked to Greg Connors a couple of weeks ago. One of the things I asked him was about moving the CLA Nationals to PA. He said it would never happen with the current range set up. The facilities are simply too small to accomodate a large number of shooters--there were 165 at this year's match in Ra...

Re: Multiple .22LR loads

I use Lapua Master M standard velocity for chickens, pigs, & turkeys. I bought a case of it sometime back and am still using it because it is so accurate in my Marlin 39A. The bullet has a dry lube. For Rams I switch to SK High Velocity, which is also very accurate. But it has what I call a wet lube...

Re: CLA Nationals any dates yet?

Mick, I spoke with Greg Connor last week. He said they have asked Whittington Center for the month of July to hold all the silhouette matches--Hunter Pistol, Highpower, Smallbore, Cowboy, BPCR would be held in that order putting the Cowboy matches around July 22. Now, don't take this to the bank yet...

Re: Do they shoot Cowboy Silhouette in St. Louis?

Snaketail2, have you checked the St. Louis Benchrest Club near Wentzville? I think they shoot modern silhouette there. If you want to look at the other end of the state and then some, there are monthly matches at Topeka, KS from March thru October. We shoot all three rifles--three 40 shot matches in...

Re: Cowboy L A Western Regional at Pala, CA. Oct 11,12 and 1

Baja Traveler,I watched Neal Gordon shoot on Saturday. Very impressive. Can you share with us what caliber he was shooting, the powder charge and bullet? I have a Rossi in .357 I keep as a back up rifle that is as accurate a pistol caliber rifle as I have ever shot. I'm interested in what Neal used....

Re: Cowboy L A Western Regional at Pala, CA. Oct 11,12 and 1

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words. I have to admit I'm very proud of the 40/40 score--it's my first. Those of you who have never shot at Pala are missing probably the best range in the country for visibility of targets. The range faces north, the animals are white and the dirt background is a re...

Re: Pa State Championship Results

Dustin, I hope you can attend the Nationals next year. You'll have fun! AMB--Your point about satellite parking at Bradford. At Whittington there were many parking spaces by the range designated for "handicapped". Satellite parking would not work for those people. And there are more of them than you...

Re: Pa State Championship Results

PhxShooter--Your assessment of the PA range at Bradford is spot on in their physical capability to handle the Lever Gun Nationals. Having shot there several times, I can attest that Mike and Tammy run a first class match. But they only had 50 shooters. As much as I would like to shoot the Nationals ...

Re: Change in venue for 2015 CLA Nationals

I have travel by air several times to matches and brought my rifles along, too. I can get three rifles in one gun case, all packed in separate cloth cases. I pad them real well. The case weighs 47 lbs. The limit is 50 lbs per item of luggage or there is an upcharge. I usually fly Southwest since the...

Re: Pa State Championship Results

Hugh, this is the fourth year I've shot in the PA State Championship. It has never bothered me that I cannot be the "State Champion" ( I,m from Kansas). My satisfaction & reward is in shooting the score. Incidentally, I travel back to the PA match for two reasons. One, they are a bunch of good shoot...

Re: Pnuematic Reset Big Bore targets

Glen, I attended the Arizona State Championship matches in Phoenix three weeks ago. It was my first experience shooting the pneumatic resetting silhouette targets. They shoot the small bore and pistol cartridge matches on the same animals. In the .22 match, the officials ruled that any target hit th...

Re: Redfield 75

L. Rivard Refer to my posts under "Silhouette Lever Gun Rule Changes" about a month ago. I didn't understand the new wording regards rear sights, so I called Greg Connor. He said the Model 75 Redfield and any other sight that can be attached to the receiver are legal except for Olympic and Internati...

Re: Henry 001 Sights

I have a shooting friend who uses the Marble tang sight on his rifles. He said he had to send them back three times before he got one that was tight and repeatable. The MVA Sharps tang sight is perfect for these lever action rifles. It is well made and accurate. There's nothing more troubling than a...
