Need some clarity.

http://cz-usa.com/product/cz-455-varmin ... ate-stock/

It seems NRA light rifle (offseason indoor 50' sport in ND) is less specific on rules. 8.5lb total weight and 2lb or greater trigger, gun is good to go.

I have never shot silhouette- same rules apply, but also have to have a "taper" to barrel. I understand 1712 is "standard", but would the stock on the CZ link above be legal for Standard? I know there is no taper to barrel, but with Drop in from Lilja that seems an easy fix. If the stock would work, this would be legal for both although I dont "really" see myself shooting my silhouette in the summer as I shoot LR prone and SB prone events mostly.

If I could do a total rig for less than Ahg, seems a possible solution. Or could even put this action in a Merrier stock in future if I want to be more serious about standard.

Thanks for assistance.

Since there are no apparent adjustments or appendages, it appears legal for Smallbore. It would be up to the discretion of individual Match Directors to determine if that stock is "in the spirit of a hunting rifle". Doubtful, but who knows?

I shot a Smallbore Match at Bismarck once. You northern plains shooters have my admiration for your ability to manage the wind.
Good luck and tell us what you decide.

FWIW, 99.9% of the match directors I know would be more then happy to allow you to shoot that rifle. It is a prone stock so there is no real advantage shooting it in silhouette and if you were to get hooked you'd want to purchase a more appropriate rifle any way.

I have been trying to find when "light rifle" was switched to 'hunter rifle'. It was back in the early 90s but the NRA won't answer my e-mail inquiries.
As I recall, there was no trigger weight limit or tapered bbl requirement, only a weight limit. I do wish the NRA would pull their head out and joint the rest of us in century 21.

NRA started 'light rifle' in 1984, smallbore only. Before that weight could be added to barrels and I believe the max weight was 7 1/2#. The 1st hunter rifle class in HP & SB came in 1987 & came with weight changes in SB. The Open class was SB only and only in 1994. Sorry Jerry, I didnt do a better attempt the with 1st answer.

What year did they drop hunter rifle and switch to hunter rifle? It was after my divorce in 1989 because I was going to buy a light rifle before they switched.
