I would like to practice by dry firing my Model 54

Where do I find and or what do I use as a "snap cap"

In the 2017 Champion's Choice catalog on page 44 there are some made of some sort of synthetic material called Saf-T-Trainers and others by Armsport. Will these harm my Model 54?

Great answer Jim. They are cheep and work just fine.

The other option is to buy a brand spanking new firing pin and replace the existing firing pin. Take the old one and file it down so it can't hurt any thing and use that one to dry fire.

If you are exceptional rich buy a second brand new rifle to shoot and use the old one just for dry firing.

You can actually dry fire your 54 without harming the chamber. If you look at the instruction book on any Annie, it will tell you that it is OK to dry fire the gun for practice. Snap caps are fine, but if you ever open the bolt for cocking it, it will extract the cap, and you will be chasing them on the floor. A dummy dry firing pin, is fine, but don't forget to replace it before going to the range for live practice. Don't ask me why I said that !

HI ALL ,

I DRY FIRE more than live fire ...
I am constantly practicing at 60 ft. on a pellet hole WITH my ANSCHUTZ 54 ...
I use a WEAVER T , it focuses down to 50 ft .

THE key is to SAVE your fired casings AFTER live fire for THAT specific rifle ...
OTHER cases may NOT fit that chamber ...

CAREFULLY catch the fired case and THEN check your firing pin hit mark !
TURN the case to the other side and then LOAD again ...

YOU might get about 8 - 10 strikes per casing and its just like LIVE FIRE !

The yellow drywall anchors are much easier to put in the chamber because they have a rounded and tapered end. At less than $5 a hundred they are cheep and can bu used many times..
