Opinion of Value

I have a Remington 541T with a Voelker spec'd Broughton Barrel and complete Voelker action job. It is also equipped with a Leupold 6.5 - 20 Vari X III with target turrets. Any idea what this is worth in today's market? For what it's worth, this gun is a tack driver and is an excellent Silhouette shooter!

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Having been out of touch, I am not sure what you mean by that.

In short, does the rifle have a tapered contour barrel, weigh under 8.5lbs, and have a trigger that has at least a 2lb pull?

Steve,
On this particular 541T, does the barreled action have to be removed from the stock in order to remove the bolt from the rifle for cleaning?
Many of those Remington silhouette rifles were built like that depending on which stock they were in.
Have not seen a Remington on the firing lines in a long time. Many years ago they were supposed to have a fast lock time compared to the other rifles out there.

I don't know about anyone else but I would love to see a photo or two of the rifle in question.

If it's a factory stock, the bolt is easily removable. The three 541 variants (S, T sporter, T Heavy Barrel) my family has all come out just fine.

I should have said you could not remove the bolt when they were in some of the aftermarket stocks.

The bolt is easily removable without removing the stock. I have a chamber guide that I use when cleaning with a one piece Tipton rod and clean patches. I have never used a bore brush of any kind, although I do have some that are made of fiber.

I can't quite tell if that barrel tapers or not. Knowing the diameter of the 541 receiver, I'm guessing that the barrel diameter is .900" at the action face based on the pictures.

If it's a .900 straight like what's really popular in the benchrest world, it will not qualify for Hunter. If it has a taper and that Leupold scope is a 40mm, I would say there is a chance it's under 8.5lbs and could qualify for hunter because I know the 541 stock and action combo is light. This is assuming that trigger is at least 2lbs. I'm kind of leaning towards that it's not.

I say list it over on http://benchrest.com/class/ for ~$800 without the scope included and see if you get a bite. 541T (heavy and sporter) rifles usually sell around 5-600 or so. Having an aftermarket barrel and different gunsmith adds appeal to some shooters and turns off most as it's no longer factory original. If that trigger is real light, it could be an affordable rifle to slip into IR 50/50 sporter benchrest which is why I suggested listing it where I linked.

That's my opinion. Others will differ. It's worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it and that's hard to predict sometimes.

That's not far off from what my original thoughts were. I was considering $1400, with scope and accessories that I have for it. I also have a fair amount of premium .22 ammo that I would like to unload. RWS, Aquila, Ely, Lapua and some others. Any value there?

Sure there's value. In my experience, you generally fair better financially parting out items, but combining items may entice a buyer that would have otherwise been on the fence.

List it here, RFC, Accurate Shooter, and BRC. Advertise you'll entertain offers and see. The market will tell you if you're too high and if it sells immediately, you'll always wonder how low you were lol.
