Which Annie trigger?

Can anyone tell me what number Anschutz trigger this is from this terrible photo? It's on a 1800 series (I think) Anschutz Model 54 position rifle. I shoot this rifle in an aluminum stock all offhand in our winter gallery position league (because I'm too old to bend anymore!). It's damn good practice, and I'd like to get the trigger weight up to about 2 pounds to match my 1712, but I can't seem to make it heavier. Dennis M. told me to change the springs to get that weight..... anybody know where I can get that heavier spring? Is it the spring in the photo? Is this a specialist job, and if so, to whom do I send it? Thanks for any help!

Neal Stepp in Arlington/Ft Worth. Company name is "I.S.S." and he will have the needed springs (pl) or be able to do the work for you. The phone number I have for him is, I think, out of date but this is all I have: (817) 595-2090

I got my springs from Neal Stepp, did 4 triggers so far. First one was hard but now I know how so its not as bad. It is a bit tricky and a nice set of surgical tweezers that can lock closed help a lot. If I only had 1 trigger to do, I would have sent it in instead.

Hey Mel. I think I saw Eric Boos or Steve Wooster swapping out springs on one of those triggers at Pe Ell one day. I just had the springs swapped on the same model trigger by Evelio McDonald down in Texas while he was putting a new barrel on an action for me, too. It's not that difficult of a job. You may just want to call or email Steve Wooster and ask if he can do it at the WA smallbore state match in less than two weeks.

Thanks, Jason.... I'm comin' to the state match, but I don't need that gun for it. I'll shoot my 1712. The gun and trigger in question is for shooting all offhand in the gallery league; Dennis M. told me to get the springs switched to 2 pounds, because I'm old and shaky! Still pretty, though, still pretty!

My point wasn't that you can get it done so that you can use it at the state match. I was suggesting that you can get it done while you're over here with the people who can swap the springs out for you. That will save you shipping the trigger two ways (and risking any loss/damage), as well as some expense.

Edit: I was also trying to help you avoid a chat with Neal. I don't think either of you has ever met a stranger you couldn't have a nice long chat with, so I was worried that you could be on the phone for hours. =))

I did have a nice chat with Neal.... and my trigger's been removed, boxed, insured, and sent to him.... Which is a smart move on my part; I am the poster boy of the ADHD set, and a ruined trigger would be the net result of any effort on my part to swap out those springs! :D

Thanks everyone....

I believe there is a small spring that goes between the action and that trigger. I assume Neil prepped you on how to remove and reinstall it. I just wanted to bring it up because the first time I removed mine I didn't notice the spring except that it was laying on the mat and I knew it came from somewhere.

Uh ho....... no, he did not, and no I didn't notice one! Criminey! If I can't find it, I'll call him and have him send one when he sends the trigger back! Damnation.....

There is no such spring on the 5018 triggers. It is all contained in the trigger housing.

I couldn't remember if it was my 5018 or 1407... one of them have a small spring between the housing and receiver. Just trying to be helpful. :)

Thank you.... is my trigger the 5018? What gunsmithing knowledge I possess can be shoved into my eye without discomfort!

Yes, your trigger looks like the 5018 trigger and has come on the Anschutz target rifles for many years now. The same trigger with the heavier springs from the factory is the 5022 trigger.
