Will a anschutz 1712 with 21.6" barrel and Leupold 30mm 8.5x25 make the 8.5lb weight limit in hunter class ?
Probably looking at a set of Morr rings.

If your Anschutz has the wood stock i dont think it will make weight.

Depending how close you are to making weight and you probably can't tell until you get all the components. I've found that the listed weight of most of the products vary somewhat from the actual weight. The first thing to try if you're close is to remove the butt plate and screws and replace them with a glue on light weight pad.
Removing wood is not a viable method. 1.00 square inch of wood on average only weighs 0.5 ozs. so picture how much of it you'd need to remove to get a few ounces.

Just using a scope I already have for now.
Yes it's has a wood stock.
Have to save my pennies back up for a lighter scope.
44 mag, how many ozs. Can one save with a glue on pad?

I have a friend with a 1712 in a Robertson's stock and a 30mm Leupold in BKL rings. It makes Hunter weight so yes, it can be done.

Cheeper to get a synthetic stock than a new scope and you will be happier.

What are my options on composite stocks for a 1712?

Evelio has been receiving some lightweight wood stocks. I assume Mark Pharr still has carbon fiber/fiberglass stocks.

Not sure if a stock is cheaper than finding a scope though.

Not a commentary, just a reference point...

I had Evelio put my barreled action into one of his stocks last year and after it was all said and done it was $750 ($650 for Evelio, $100 for bottom metal from Frank).

Hey 308,
It's your money, but we'll be glad to help you spend it!!!
Another alternative for a lightweight stock is Wayne Merier in Brunswick GA.
Come to the FL State Championship in Jacksonville on March 23/24 and you can likely meet Mr. Merier, but I guarantee you can see a bunch of his stocks (since he is "local").

His stocks are similar to the Pharr design, but substantially less expensive than other folks. No knock against the others - I have a Robertson/Pharr that was smithed by Evelio and I LOVE it.

Wayne's contact info is:
wmerier <at> Comcast <dot> net
1505 Martin Luther King Blvd.
Brunswick GA 31520

Also is Steve Wooster in WA
sdwooster <at> msn <dot> com

Good Luck and Good Hunting (pun intended)!

Yep, forgot about Wayne Merrier. His stocks are cost effective. I think you get to him through "ThePiddlers" antique store.

So Greg,
Your above reply is the first reference to a 2019 Florida State Championship Match in Jacksonville, Fl.?
Where was this match announced?
It was not announced on NRA Coming Events.
It was not announced on this forum steelchickens.
The best way to lower attendance is to never advertise that a match is being held.

There is always the McMillian synthetic stock. It is a copy of the Anschutz stock but done the McMillian way.

Well I can always shoot it in standard until I can work something out.
Is a McMillan lighter than wood?
I'm picking up my rifle at creed more sports this week.
I'll know where I'm at when I get it all in hand.
I plan to shoot some at gateway, that's about the closest silhouette range to me.
I shot there back in the late 80s
But that was a long time ago.
Hope to begin shooting a few matches a year there.
