Has the Anschutz 1712 been replaced by the Anschutz 1762? Should I sell off my 1712 to buy the new 1761 So I can stay competitive in AA?

You are probably correct, I am more inclined to have a custom rifle built.

The real problem with the 22s is the ammo, not the rifle. With a lot of searching you can find ammo that will group under 1 min. Some people carry a target in their bilfold that is about 1/2 min but that kind of group is not consistant. If you have a rifle/ammo combo that will shoot 1 minute, you too can become a master shooter with hours a day practice. A good coach is required to keep you on the straight and narrow. Some people have made hunter AAA with a 10/22. It is the Indian, not the arrow.

Well damn, I was hoping to offset the cost of a new custom rifle by using Remington Golden bullets.

Oh well, it was a nice thought.

My friend’s old Marlin model 25 shoots groups nearly as small as those my 1712 shoots. It makes me wonder why I don’t sell it and just shoot a Ruger 10/22?

I guess I am too lazy to go through the process of selling it off. On top of that I would have to go through the trouble of moving my scope over to a new rifle.

If you use R50 ammo, have a premium after market barrel installed with a Pharr or Wooster stock and a well adjusted trigger I would think the 1712 should be good to at least the lower range of AAA...?

That may be all true but I have not taken full advantage of the rifle. My shooting skills are not to that level so maybe I should unload the rifle, buy a $500 Tikka and bank the difference. I keep hoping I run into someone at the gun Club with a new Tikka to see for myself what tue rifle can do.

Regardless of your scores it matters almost as much how much you like shooting the gun, if your happy shooting a cheap gun sell the expensive gun to someone that appreciates workmanship in fine firearms.

Mr. K. Bear, You have a valid point of view and if money was not an object I might even agree with you without exception.
I am starting to think that perhaps the potential extra accuracy may be wasted on me and a more mundane rifle provides a greater value. This is especially true of a mediocre competitor.
I believe in positive thinking and someday I want to get to the point of needing an Anschutz for silhouette but if I am going to be truthful I do not need that level of rifle.
So why not pick up a serviceable rifle and spend the extra money on ammo for practicing?
I have not come to a conclusion yet but I am contemplating the subject.

Sell the primo gun and buy a cheap gun so you can afford to practice a lot and get as good as you can with the lesser gun then buy another primo gun, in the long run it should only cost you an extra 8-900 for your genius plan!

LOL. It only costs me that much IF I get good enough to warrant a primo gun.
