Has anyone felt the Anschutz is just too common?

Post by DavidABQ » Mon Jan 26, 2015 6:21 pm

I feel that the Anschutz 1712 is just too common of a rifle at Silhouette events. I intend to sell mine off and build a special 10/22.

The great thing about a 10/22 platform you can paint it, Ceracoat it, play around with barrel length until you have the balance you want
without feeling guilty about chopping an Anschutz up.

Can anyone suggest a receiver, barrel and trigger combination that is a proven silhouette combination?

Does Wooster make a 10/22 stock?

I shot myself into AAA hunter class with a factory 10-22. I had a tough time finding the correct ammo and when I did, the stuff would 'smoke stack' if I let the action get just a little dirty. It liked Eley black box.

Guessing you are talking standard rifle, if so get yourself a Bell& Carlson stock (have Anschutz and Anschutz Thumb-hole styles), a Kidd 2-stage trigger, and a good barrel and have at it.

I have one built up in my gun safe, I keep threatening to take out and shoot at one of our local matches. Only part that is still Ruger is the receiver, all else aftermarket Kidd parts. One of these days LOL

I like Pete's idea. Maybe I should bolt the carbine kit up to one of my early Thompson Contender frames.
I do not recall seeing any of those at last year's Nationals.

Yeah I shot a 10-22 my first year. Tricked it out some, and it shot great groups off the bags. Unfortunately it had this big jerk problem.

I'll stick with my common 1712 thanks. But Dave, I'll trade you a stock 10-22 for yours so you'll have a starting point for your new build!

I like those. They are the 10-22's answer to the Fortner. A straight pull version of the 10-22. I almost went that route with my 10-22 but decided to just scrap it and sell off the parts and buy a 1712.

I can just feel the love. I think I am going to bolt up the Carbine kit to my old Thompson Contender frame. I do not recall seeing any of those at last year's SB Nationals.

That is one damn good looking rifle! I would love to just sit down and gaze at that rifle.

I have one with a Kidd 2-stage trigger and PWS 16" carbon barrel. I like it a lot, but then again, what do I know? It wears Phoenix Precision sights with Gehmann irises.

It was suggested to me that a new barrel (maybe a Feddersen?) should have dual extractor slots cut in it.

I like it partly because it isn't "yet another same-same" on the line. The action is slick, getting slicker. One can mess with head spacing using shims. There are a variety of 10/22-fit stocks to choose from... Etc., etc., and it is bolt, not semi. One can purchase just the action and build it up. It isn't a Fortner, but compares decently with my Izhmash BB.

Good luck!

Maybe usefull to have a flirt with a Ruger just to realize what you missing in the Anschutz .

From what I can see on this site is many 1712's are super customed as well only the action is Anschutz - Other Barrel , aftermarket stock , different trigger .

The heart wants what the heart wants but I am of opinion the 1712 is popular for a reason.

I am also one of those guys that want to be different some times , but then ability must be even .

Since I bought a 1712 yesterday , I am part of the boring squad , Silhouette rifle options are slightly limited where I am and would have loved a Weatherby VXX or a Kimber as options but don't get them here

going from a ANNIE to a Ruger is like going from a Porche to a Toyota nothing wrong but always less off a shock going from a Toyota to a Porche.

Another rifle that also took my fancy is the Weihrauch HW60j and HW66 rifles - Weihrauch also comes from a pedigree of target rifles and would be interesting to see how these perform within the Silhouette arena and seem to maybe be a Alternative

not sure what availability and support look like in USA ?

I have to be careful. The last time I listened to an anonymous stranger on the internet it cost me.$1700 for an Anschutz 1712 rifle.

You guys and gals can be real expensive to listen to.
