Open Bolt Indicators

Post by Jetmugg »

What are you guys using for Open Bolt Indicators? Is there some "store bought", or standard NRA issued open bolt indicator? Are people making their own, or is this a standard gun-shop item? I haven't seen them in my local gun shop, but then again, I haven't gone looking for one (yet).

We usually make up several out of short pieces of weed-eater line and colored duct tape for the flag part. Of course, we are in the south and weedeater line is the new bailing wire and duct tape is a staple of life, good enough for nascar and fixing trailer houses, good enough for open chamber indicators.

Hey John, I've never seen any colored duct tape up hear (north east). Just plain old silver. We got blue decorating tape, that has the sticking power of spit. What color's can you get? Has it got the same sticking power?

Zip tie and yellof "flag" tag

Post by Jetmugg »

So a bent zip tie with a bright yellow "flag" type tag will suffice, correct.

Yes, ECI. I should have remembered. I have the new rulebook at home, but not with me here at work. (I do my best internet surfing at work).

Down here our hardware stores carry red and yellow duck tape....Maybe it's a southern thing.....We might ought to think about exporting some of it up north......

I also use weedeater line. I got some large line in bright orange and have not been adding a flag. I cut a peice about 6 inches long, heat it about 2 in from one end and put in a 90 degree bend and let it cool

Jettmugg,

I deleted your email too soon and lost the e address. (Fortunately, I had already copied the snail-mail onto an envelope!)
I just put 2 in the mail to you. (You mentioned that you were going with a friend.) Sent 1st class -- can't guarantee that they'll be there for the wknd.

Thanks Nomad.

Nomad:
Thanks for the help. I made a couple of makeshift indicators with a zip tie bent into a right angle, and a bright yellow tag zip tied to the bent zip tie.
I'm really looking forward to Sunday, and I'm going out this afternoon to get some practice in.
