Hi all,

A little while back I came across a Weatherby CFP at a local gun shop that had a price tag on it that just screamed take me home. It is chambered in .223. I haven't seen this handgun mentioned too much on the silhouette forums or Facebook pages and was wondering if there is a reason why? It doesn't really worry me too much as I can shoot it, as is, locally without bothering anyone but if there is a chance to use it in a "proper" match I may be interested in doing what ever needs to be done to get it up and running. At this stage the only thing I have thought of is getting it rechambered to .300 Whisper / Blackout as I haven't seen too many .223 silhouette loads listed.

File photo attached, hopefully. :ympray:

Thank you in advance for any information / opinions offered.

Regards

Geo

Bolt action isn't legal in NRA HP.

Looks like a nice find!

A bolt action is okay for NRA long range and unlimited pistol if you can find a place offering those matches.

I'm not sure how active NRA pistol silhouette is anymore. We began offering NRA hunters pistol with our lever gun matches and I can't get any traction with that.

You may have better luck looking at the IHMSA site for matches in your area. The closest place for me to shoot big bore pistol is 4 hours away.

If you can the matches I would turn the pistol into a 7tcu or a 30-223. My wife has a xp 100 in 30-223 and it is great in big bore pistol silhouette. I used a xp 100 in 7-08. But it has been years since we shot any big bore silhouette pistol matches. All we can find now is small bore hunter and hunter pistol.

Any of the 300 blackout or 223 family would easily work. 6 TCU, 6x47 (from 222 magnum brass), 6x45, 6.5 TCU, 7 TCU, 7x45, 7x47 (from 222 mag) are all viable candidates, as is the 30/223 already mentioned.Keep us informed if you rebarrel.
