32 magnum heavy bullets

Post by glen ring »

I have read that Thompson Center barrels for 32 magnums are bored 308. Does anyone shoot really heavy bullets in theirs?

Glen -

I've never shot anything heavier than 115gr out of mine, but there are some heavier 32Mag/32-20 loads listed here on the IHMSA website:
http://forum1.aimoo.com/IHMSA/Field-Pis ... 85313.html
http://forum1.aimoo.com/IHMSA/Big-Bore- ... 10336.html
http://forum1.aimoo.com/IHMSA/Big-Bore- ... 32605.html

This one's got some good info, if you can filter out the extra BS:
http://forum1.aimoo.com/IHMSA/Big-Bore- ... 62617.html

And here's a thread about loading .308 diam bullets for the Contender:
http://forum1.aimoo.com/IHMSA/Field-Pis ... 66240.html

However, none of these are loads that I've ever been able to find in manufacturers printed or online loading resources, so legal disclaimers apply, YMMV, the risk is yours to take, etc...

Hi Glenn, I successfully used 150 gr cor-loct Remington bulk bullets over 8.8 gr of W296 to get my unlimited standing long range pistol grand slam #80 with a 10" contender 12x leupold and Ken Light 5" high rise scope mount. Sharon also did very well shooting it also 3 years high lady standing national champion. I used Federal brass couldn't get starline to work the sameI got the idea from Jim Rock whom I saw shooting his Xl RPM pistol at LASC Testing 169gr SMK on top of 8.6 gr W296. The xl is a 1in9twist, the contender 1in 10, and mine wouldn't stabilize the heaverier bullet. with a good spotting scope the bullet can be seen bouncing off a hit ram at 200M before toppeling the ram.have only rang center hit pigs. zeros are as follows 0-50M +3min-100M+12min-150M+12min-200M. yes, 1full revolution of elevation from pigs to turkeys and 1 more to get to rams. Lots of fun and very accurate. Steve
