Shippensburg Supershoot & Nat'l Records

Post by SSShooter »

46 competitors shot the annual June "Supershoot" 60-shot match at Shippensburg under cloudy skies with mild breezes (sometimes, too mild). When the "smoke had cleared", Brian Chilson not only won the match, but set two (2) national iron-sight records, hitting 12-chickens in a row ("going long" on the last two) and knocking over 57/60. Congratulations to Brian on his outstanding shooting and best of luck to shoot even better at the nationals at Raton next month. Other winners were (unofficially, based on my memory - apologies to the A & B winners - will post all scores & correct any errors once the scores become official):
Brian Chilson - MW - 57.
Bob Bloyer - 1st Mstr - 47.
Karl Hovatter - 1st AAA - 39.
Ralph Carruthers - 1st AA - 38.
John Haagen - 1st scope Mstr/AAA - 45.
Glenn Davis - 1st scope AA/A/B - 36.

That is just flat out stunning!

If BPCR was a better known sport, they would be calling Lebron James, the Chilson of basketball.

There are two shooters in the BP cartridge world that are head and shoulders above the rest. Brian Chilson in silhouette and Dave Gullo on long range. Those two guys are so much better that the rest of us, it just isn't funny.

Thanks for posting this.

Don't know DaveG that well, but BrianC is about the nicest, most unassuming champion anyone could ask for. Never too busy to lend a hand on anything needed at the range or help an individual shooter by answering questions on anything from loads, to brass prep to shooting position, etc. Recall his giving up a few hours of his practice time the day before last year's .22BPCR match to coach a couple of kids in the fine art of BPCR shooting.

I know Brian from Raton, and you are right, he is a great guy. Gullo is much the same.
