Steve Rhoades

Post by Bob259 »

We at the ASRPA are very sad to announce the passing of a long time ASRPA board member, friend, and great American, Steve Rhoades.
Steve was the ASRPA Black Powder Cartridge Division Director for the State Association for many years. His leadership led that division to some of the most popular Rifle matches ever hosted at the Ben Avery Range. On match day, it was not uncommon to see the range parking lot bursting at the seams with Motor homes, and vehicles and the world class Ben Avery campgrounds full of participants and spectators.
Steve was also a master Cowboy Cook and traveled across the Nation competing in many such events. Many of you visited with Steve at the big Winter Range and other similar events and marveled at his talent with a Dutch Oven and other "primitive" forms of cooking. As a huge fan of camp cooking and Cowboy Culture, I can attest Steve was a purist and took his hobby very serious. His biscuits were works of art.

Steve also helped us with many issues concerning vintage rifle repairs and maintenance and was an unending supply to many on the subject of historical and correct information. He was a master gunsmith.

The Rhoades family will be hosting a memorial on Saturday, 1/27/2018 following the Lever Gun Match at the Ben Avery Pistol Silhouette Range. The Match will end around 2pm and the range is reserved for the memorial until 7pm.

Please attend if you can to honor a real legend among ASRPA shooters and those around the Country which knew Steve.

Steve was a real American and a real mans man and will be missed.

Bob,

Maybe you can speak with Jeane and whomever about adding a little something to the AZ State Cowboy Match in Memory for Steve. A Lot of us from out of state will be there then.

Another Great Ambassador and Leader of our game has left the range. **==
