Sierra 6.5mm 155 HPBT and 160 SMP bullets???
I found some 6.5mm, 155 HPBT and 160 SMP bullets at my local shop. They are in the old cardboard boxes.
How old do you suppose these are and why did they discontinue them??
I plan to use them for Rams.
Thanks

The 155s are mid 90's and the 160s were made till a few years later. Reason for discontinue was lack of sales for both. There were very few people shooting the 6.5 for silhouette and the 155 was before the vld so had the same ogive as the 140mk. They took at lease an 8 twist to stabilize them 7 1/2 was better. Most factory 6.5 rifles then were 9 twist If you shoot them work up load slowly with a slow powder. If you put them on top your 140 load you may not get the bolt open. They were made for the silhouette game and some other long range shooters. Never shot that good for me. The 160 was a good old hunting bullet round nose, Hornady had one also. The 160 would knock the daylights out of rams ---accuracy was not that good at 500m..

Don't bother with those heavy bullets.
Recoil quickly gets out of hand and they don't perform any better on Rams. If you have some 144s shoot them, but otherwise stick with a 139 gr Scenario or a 142 gr Amk.
You will loose a few Rams, but will gain on everything else.
Don't go above 2,750 with SMKs.

I agree that it could be in the mid 90's but t could be more accurate to state here if we can see pictures.

Re: Sierra 6.5mm 155 HPBT and 160 SMP bullets???
G'day folks
I used to shoot a 6.5/257 Ackley Improved as my heavy gun. Those 155 Sierras would group 1and1/2" @ 500m but I was getting them out at 2800+ fps.
Never had a ram stand against that load. Funny thing was they wouldn't group any better @ 100m. Go figure.
Barrel had 1 in 8" twist. Other blokes that tried them in 260rem and 6.5 x 55 had no luck with them. Couldn't get them out hard enough maybe?
