More expensive to feed, but worth it.

NEW GUN NEED ADVICE

Post by JOSEPHVILLE GUN »

Gentlemen,
I have been out of High Power Silhouette for many years now and just shooting Rimfire and Air rifle Silhouette. Anyway I recently acquired a Tikka 595 Continental in .308 that i have now re-barreled with a Brux 6.5 x 47 Lapua I did this because i shoot the same cartridge in my F-Class rifle, and wanted less recoil in the rifle for High Power. I spoke with David Bonner and he told me he was using the 6.5x47 lapua for High Power also and it was working great for him.
My question is what grain and type of bullets do you guys use and what powder. When I used to shoot in High Power years ago with my limited experience I used 7mm-08 with 168gn bullets on rams and 150gn bullets on everything else both with 37gn Varget. Is it still common practice to use a lighter bullet on everything but the rams? I am using Berger 140vld with 37.5gn Varget in F-Class and was thinking of using the same berger bullet on the rams with around 37gn Varget but what weight bullet and powder should I use on the rest of the animals? i would like to have something with less recoil but still accurate and good enough to knock them down I do not want to ring them. Any help would be appreciated as i am a novice at this.
thanks
Shane

Sierra 107 or 123 gr. will work fine for the short distance, Varget about 36.0gr. will work with the 107.

Good to see you posting around here. Shane fit a Shilen Ratchet for one of my smallbores a few years back and it was a screaming shooter.

I'm getting great results with the new 130 Sierra Tipped MatchKings. I have used them in two different .260's and a 6.5 X 55. Just to see I shot rams with them in five matches, and only lost one ram.
