Likely last post to SteelChickens

I would like to thank SteelChickens for allowing the controversial comments and proving they are a true open forum. Certainly I did not appreciate some comments made, some did not appreciate my comments, but it is much better being open to all opinions.

I have tried to be as diplomatic as possible and want to finish with a statement that is as diplomatic as possible.

There is a difference between justifying your actions to your friends and club members and justifying your actions in a formal hearing.

The first of two problems the jury members had was having to acknowledge the same glove was worn all day without complaint. It was recognized and talked about. It makes it much more difficult to defend actions stating it was a disqualifying offense six hours after it was first worn. Anyone taking an objective point of view, such as members of a formal hearing, would see that as a problem.

The second of the problem was having to state the opinion that a device that covered three fingertips was exactly equal to the recognized definition of a glove which is: "a garment covering the whole hand". Additionally stating the device covering three fingertips fit the intent of the glove rule. Anyone taking an objective point of view, such as members of a formal hearing, would see that as a problem.

What prompted this last statement by me was after pondering the comment by Jim T
I hope it was worth it! They may miss one match, you will never shoot a competitive match for the rest of your life. You tell me who the loser is?
The truth is about everyone lost. I do not know of anyone that gained except those that really wanted to have me stop shooting Rifle Silhouette.

The controversy did not promote good feelings for anyone. It can't be good for the struggling sport to have this controversy to begin with. Thanks to the NRA caring about the integrity of the sport, it is not likely to happen again in the near future.

Is the sport better with less competition? Doubtful.

For me personally it is fortunate, yet unfortunate, that I do not have the mind of a champion. I was still bothered by what had happened because those that were behind this were at the range every time I was. It affected the way I shot. My scores when competing were always lower than when practicing. The additional struggle made the decision to stop shooting easy and not regretful.

I still believe Rifle Silhouette is a great sport and I truly wish everyone competing, and I do mean everyone, the best of luck in the future.

For the record, The fact I should have notified the Match Director has not been disputed anywhere. It was stated as a fault of mine by the NRA and I do not disagree with them.

As a preliminary statement, I am perplexed that Mr Webster would stop shooting after his valiant though vacuous justifications of this sad episode. But more to the crux of the matter. While according to Mr Webster a three fingers covering does not a glove make a fortiori he was justified not to disclose its use before the match and the prisoners' ( :D ) had no call to disqualify him for use of an artificial support except the desire to cheat. Sadly Webster used an archery glove to enhance his grip and hold....the very purpose of an artificial support. Moreover an ethical player would have sought permission before the match if in all that's true and just that glove that's not a glove had some legitimate use other than as an aid or artificial support. And once again, I reiterate ....every juror at a competition has an interest in the outcome and until the NRA begins providing neutrals there is no escape from that proposition. Sorry Mr Webster but your protestations aside you were wrong, you remain wrong, and your claim of victimization is absurd. In truth you need to stick around and show your the size of your balls...and take the jibs, barbs, and teasing....but cut the victim bull.

I have no idea what rattles around between the ears of you and MetalMisser, but I genuinely hope a cure is found some day. The fact that the two of you are pariahs in the Silhouette community is no coincidence.

Quite whining , just show up and shoot..have fun. I have never met you and probably never will, but if you let the old , cranky, miserable white men who eat Viagra like chick lets discourage you, they win.

Show up, shoot and have fun..the very small percentage of shooters that are cranky old white men who are miserable and want to share the misery of wives leaving them, pain of old age etc.. are just a small number of shooters. Most shooters want to have fun. Have fun with us. Hell, I'm just a measly AA shooter but I LOVE showing up at a match, laughing , having fun to spite the very small % of shooters who want to gripe at everything.

Now quit asking for trouble by wearing stupid shit like an archery glove , and just shoot.

If the nationals are at raton this year I'll be shooting my second..yes second HP Silhouette match with my deer rifle. You can easily spot me as I'll be laughing and wearing a t-shirt that says " Have fun or leave" . Introduce yourself and I'll tell you some corny ass jokes that are guaranteed to make you laugh.
I have been close to quitting silhouette shooting and just start hunting again...but I'm very competitive and refuse to let cranky old white men set the tone of shooting. Shooting is for FUN and if you're not having fun then quit.

"Cranky old White Men" Really? I'm old and I'm far less white than glen-ring. I find talking point terms like 'white men' distasteful...trendy but distasteful. And why are folks cranky because they disagree with a shooter's conduct? The fact remains that when you wear an archery glove and argue it wasn't a rule violation because its really not a glove so it was okay to unilaterally allow yourself a pass on the rules without telling anyone before the match...well that's just disingenuous at best and these are reasons to bitch. And leaving competition because you got called out...well that's pure snowflake

We don't allow cranky old white men or drama queens at our matches. We tell them to leave...that's why we shooters in Oklahoma are always smiling in pics and our numbers are growing. ...we have fun. wearing the archery glove on a hand is just goofy at a rifle match...thinking it gives some kind of advantage is really goofy...but that's just my opinion. I will invite my bud to come shoot with us and wear his kilt..now that's just cool. Everyone one have a great night..except the cranky old white men who are probably just being cranky some where. Our last lever action match is this Saturday at the Oklahoma city gun club. It's free and we'll provide a free bowl of chili..but only if you give us the heads up so we can make enough for all the happy shooters. We have actually converted cranky old white men into happy old white men by having FUN matches and serving great food. We have had no luck converting Drama queens though. Food and fun doesn't seem to work on them.

Come shoot our free match Saturday. xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoox
