What 6mm/243 bullets are you using on C, P & T?

More expensive to feed, but worth it.

What 6mm/243 bullets are you using on C, P & T?

Post by SteveD »

If you are shooting any 6mm/243 cartridge such as 6BR, 6 Creedmore, 243 Win, 6mm Remington, 6 CX, 6X47 Lapua or any other 6mm/243 cartridge or variant, what bullet are you using on C, P &T? What other bullets have you tried?

Please share any experiences, results, thoughts, postulations, future plans and snide comments you may have. %-( :D Please limit the conversation to 6mm/243.

The Sierra 107 MK seems to be a good choice. Is anyone using a lighter bullet? 95 gr MK or TMK or a Berger 95gr VLD Hunting or Target?

I've used all the way down to 75gr. Varmint bullets on CPT with good results. YMMV.

I was asking because I am curious but also because I remember reading about someone ringing one of them. Maybe a Turkey, or even a Pig?

Anyone remember that?

Thanks Al. I was thinking of either those or the 95 MK.

Steve, my experiences with the tipped bullies have been very positive. They are extremely accurate. The 130 TMK in 6.5 is a really good. I used them on rams for 5 matches till I finally dung one. (Experimenting). The 160 TMK in 7mm is deadly on rams. One our best Pa shooters has been using them with zero lost rams.
You should definitely try the 95 TMK in your 6mm.

95 Gr might be a stretch.

What Al said.

If your plan is to load one bullet for all animals then I would load the 107gr.

I know you need a 1 in 8 or 1 in 7 twist for any bullets that way 103 grains or higher.

What about the .243 factory rifles that have a factory barrel with a 1 in 10 twist?
They need to shoot a bullet that weighs 100 grains or less.

I haven't seen any one mention the Speer #1220 100 grain BTSP bullet. I am going to try the Speer bullet with 31 grains of Varget.

The Berger 105 BT is shorter than other bullets of that weight, and the Berger stability calculator says 1.3ish stability in 9.125" twist factory Remington barrel (at Phoenix AZ). I don't shoot it yet but am looking into while I wait for a barrel to arrive.

You should be ok. This twist rate thing has gotten way out of hand.

When I can find it I will send you a link to an article by a 'top authority' on bullet stability and BC. If you read it the data is garbage. You would get an F in 9th grade math if you turned in something like this. =))
