Bloop Tube question on hunter.

Sorry, I don’t have a rule book handy.
Looking at building a 300 whisper or 338 whisper type rifle for both hunter and standard. Starting off with a Rem 700 300 blackout tactical with a 16” barrel with a threaded muzzle. I was first thinking of adding a steel bloop tube to the end, following the same barrel contour, about 6” long to add some weight to the barrel end.
I know that if my testing with 225gr+ works, that I will rebarrel the rifle correctly.
Question is a is a bloop tube legal in a hunter? I’m pretty sure the answer is no, but just checking.
Thanks Dennis

Dennis,

According to the hunter rules:
Barrel: A hunting style contoured barrel that tapers from chamber to muzzle. Bull barrels are not permitted. A factory tuner that does not act as a muzzle brake or compensator is permitted. Maximum barrel length is 26 inches, including tuner. (See Rule 3.16.1).
It doesn't say anything about a "bloop tube" however I do see a potential issue regarding the tapered barrel. The bloop tube would need to continue the taper so is there a possible safety issue with the thickness of the tube? Probably not but it would need to be kept as thick as possible. Of course, as you said, it would also need to be kept under 26".

Just my guess.

Good catch, I'm not sure if the current barrel will have enough taper to it.
I might just experiment with it as a Standard rifle first.
Then if the concept works, re barrel the rifle with the right taper.
I don't think the 300 Blackout will work that well, but if it is semi promising, I will probably go the 338 route.
The 338 will be based on the 6.5 Grendel cartridge that I already have bunches of.

You know I love messing with stuff to see it I can get it to work.
If I could get a heavy enough marshmallow going fast enough to knock over a 500 meter ram, I would do it.

Tony and I will need to go visit you guys for one of your regular matches just to give me an excuse to play.
What days do you guys shoot High Power?

Thanks, Dennis

We normally shoot HP on the second Sunday but of course that changes periodically so here's a link to the 2018 HP/SB schedule.
