Has anyone tried this bullet on rams? I bet this bullet would take the rams down.

I have not tried it or have plans to. You might need a faster twist to stabilize that big missile at the speeds we normally launch at. I was given a few boxes of Sierra GameKings 7mm 175's recently. I ran 50 test loads of 40.0 grs. I4064 with it in three 7-08's this past Tuesday. All bench tested on our 20 inch dia. 500 meter gong. I needed 12.5 min. of elevation correction for centering. I hated to spray paint the nice groups printed between rifle changes. Three to 3.5 inch groups, Remington factory barrels, 12x Leupolds on all. Live ram test at our next HP match on the 4th Nov. Most likely be shooting the re-barreled Ruger 77. They will fall. 8)

Bob, the 175 gameking has always been a reliable ram slayer. The 160 TMK matchking is also excellent on top of 39grs of Varget or XMR 4064. The 150 Lapua works great with about a 10% loss on our range....no problem in Raton. I used the 150 over 40grs to shoot a 600 yard bench rest match and placed 8th with a 2.8in 5 shot group on our weird wind range. The 197 and even the 180 match bullets require really fast twists and you can't get them going fast enough. Frankly they just don't group well in my 7-08 and its an 8 twist. the 197 was made for the 284 Win a suddenly popular cartridge in f-class----those bullets have very thin jackets. Sierra's new 165 Game Changer bears examining...its touted to have a thick jacket and its a hybrid design...a sort-of VLD allegedly made for magnum velocities and to hang together for deep penetration....might be the ticket for rams

This bullet requires a barrel twist rate of 1x7.5” or faster. This is from the Sierra web sight. My Sako 75 has a 1 in 9.5 twist and it is shooting to good to rebarrel. Besides, I don't think I want to deal with the extra recoil from shooting the 197 grain bullet in a 9 lb rifle.

I do plan on looking at the Sierra 165 and 168 grain bullets, the Berger 168 grain and maybe even the Laupa 150 and 180 grain bullets. Right now I am shooting the Nosler 160 Accubond for rams and the Nosler 120 BT for the short line. With the price of the Nosler bullets, I am looking for something with a better price value.

Ken, this is your lucky day. Somewhere this past year, AZ and NM I think, I won a box each of Lapua 150gr. and 180gr. 7mm bullets as door prizes. I will gladly let you have them for testing for the price of shipping. Another late thank you to Lapua for donated goods!

PM me with your mailing info......SOLD

Your welcome. Sorry for the late reply, did not see it. Shoot those 180's at about 2450 fps on the rams if your gun likes them. I got to live test those 175 Sierras today on rams. We had lousy wind conditions all day long. Pushing you around from the S-SW, all scores suffered. I managed to smack 10 of 20 rams with no hit consistency at all. Horn to butt, back to belly and every where in between. All fell nicely.
