Anyone shooting a .25-06? Can you share general load data to save a little development time?

You don't want to be in the bay next to the 25-96. They have a terrible muzle blast.

Use to be they had a terrible selection of bullets.

Since nobody else answered you I will. I don't know about Gerry's comment but the 25/06 is a real thumper. I am on my second one which is a 700 classic and I have shot silo with it. I would not pick it as a silo rifle but I had it so I used it. I bought it for varmint hunting and it is a lot of gun for sure but there are buts. Neither of mine would shoot factory ammo for beans. I hate working up loads and I spent more time with the 25/06 than probably ALL of my other rifles put together. 25/06 will shoot great but I had to put my time in to get it to. Some say they are over bore capacity and some say not but either way you are still pushing your bullets out at 2900 to 3400 fps which, in my opinion, is HOT and not barrel friendly if there is such a thing. Recoil is abusive at the least( my current silo rifle is a .308).
I have loads for bullets from 60 gr to 120 gr but only really ever used the 75 gr HP for varmints( it hits them like a nuke missile) and the 120 gr HP for silo. Incidently I tried a whole bunch of 120 gr bullets and the only one that would shoot was Sierra1650 120 gr HP.

Varmint load,
Hornady 2520 75gr HP
50 gr IMR 4350
OA length 3.127"

Silo load,
Sierra 1650 120 gr HP
47 gr IMR 4350
OA length 3.125"

I really do not hunt anymore and the rifle is a very pretty safe queen. If you want to kill stuff far away the 25/06 is great, for silo I would try to find something else if I could afford it although a 25/06 won't ring many rams! Good luck.

First started shooting silhouette with a 25-06, because it was what I had in a mild recoiling hunting rifle. The load I used was a 100 grain sierra #1628 on top of 53.5 grains of H4831SC. This was a load which the rifle shot well, but was more velocity than needed for the close animals. The problem with the 25-06 is the lack of high BC bullet choices. Didn't bother to develop two loads for that gun, just moved to a more suitable caliber choice.
