Greetings all,

could you please suggest several producers of stock that could be inletted for a Remington 700 action?

Based on the dimensions measured on my air rifle, I appear to be a mutant and would like to find one that is as close as possible.

Kindest regards,

M

Hi cedestech,

eventually, I will. But first, I am trying to find the manufacturers so I can find the different dimensions and compare them with my air rifle dimensions, to select the closest fitting one.

Kindest regards,

M

nemo, most air rifles are not close in dimension to a Rem 700. It's kind of an apples and oranges thing. I can't think of two rifles in my collection that are similar in their feel except my Ruger 77/22 and my Ruger M77. Are you starting from scratch or is this a modification of a gun you already have?

I believe he means a stock that will fit him AND is capable of being inletted to a 700....

What are your requirements that are so odd? 12" LOP with 10" drop at the butt or 15" LOP with 2" drop? There are a lot of stock that fit many people.

What air rifle? 3P type stock?

Hi Another Dang 9,

thank you for the reply. As cedestec noted, I want to stock that will fit him and is capable to be inletted for a Remington 700 action.

Hi cedestec,

thank you for trying to help. I have made the (perhaps incorrect) conclusion of having odd requirements by comparing dimensions taken from my air rifle with dimensions of and by actually trying some hunting/varmint rifles. None of the ones I had an access to were even close.

The length of pull (from the butt-plate to the trigger is 12.5 inches and the drop (from the bottom of the butt-plate to the top of the cheek-piece) is 9 inches. The drop is the bigger concern, the length of pull I can adjust.

The air-rifle is Walther LG300XT in aluminum stock for 10m standing, but as you noted, I mentioned it only for disclosure how I arrived with the dimensions.

Kindest regards,

N

When I get home, I will measure the drop of my two Wooster stocks at 12.5" for you. I was thinking of selling one, and it is already inleted for a Remington 700

Thank you for that cedestech

On my smallbore rifle, with Wooster's Pharr type stock, there is ~7.0 inches of drop at 12.5 inches length of pull.

My 700 stock I got used and was sold to me as his version of a hunter style stock, but I am not sure he made it. On this style hunter stock, inleted for a Remington 700, I am measuring ~6.5" of drop.

I am listing 12.5 inches to the beginning of the trigger guard since the Remington 700 stock has no trigger to measure to.

Send me a PM if you are interested in the 700 stock and I can send you some pictures.

No one makes a stock with 9" of drop (at least not yet) because up until a few years ago, drop was limited to 7 inches by the rules.

HI ALL ,

I am not sure IF you know this ....
you go center of bore horizontally AND then perpendicular to THAT you measure down to the toe of that stock .
7 inches SHOULD be sufficient ...

the length of pull may STILL be short - 12.5 inches if need be ...

I for example require 13.25 even though I have long arms BECAUSE I have short fat fingers
I hope this was helpful

Hi GSL,

I am rather confused. I measured the way you described to arrive with the 9 inches, and I still have the center of the peep sight 2 inches above the center of the barrel if I keep my head up. So, maybe I am a mutant after all.

Kindest regards,

M

memo,
I've been following this and wonder what you meant by "the peep sight" is 2 inches above the center of the barrel. You're going to put a scope on this, right. The scope can be at a height as described in the rules which would be considerable higher.
ppkny

High Power Silhouette Rifle - A rifle, caliber 6mm or larger, pro-vided no belted cartridges or Magnums are allowed, meeting the following specifications:(a) Maximum weight 10 pounds, 2 ounces, including sights.(b) Any sights, telescopic or metallic may be used. Scopes may not be more than 2 inches above the rifle as measured from the top of the receiver to the underside of the scope tube, nor may the scope be offset from the top center line of the receiver.

High Power Hunting Silhouette Rifle - A hunting style rifle having a maximum weight of 9 pounds, including sights and if applicable, an empty magazine or clip. The intent of this rule is to describe a common hunting rifle.(a) Caliber: 6mm or larger, provided that no belted cartridges or Magnums are allowed.(b) Sights: any telescopic or metallic sight may be used. Scopes may not be more than 1.5 inches above the rifle, as measured from the top of the receiver to the underside of the scope tube, nor may the scope be offset from the centerline of the bore.

Hi ppkny,

indeed I will use a scope. What I was describing was the dimension taken from the air-rifle. Since for the High Power Hunting Silhouette Rifle the bottom of the scope can be at 1.5 inch, and considering a 1.0 inch diameter scope, the center of the scope will be at 2.0 inches, just like the peep-sight.

Does it make sense?

Kindest regards,

N
