6.5x55 and .260 Rem Loads you can share?

More expensive to feed, but worth it.

6.5x55 and .260 Rem Loads you can share?

Post by mordecai »

Anyone have a few loads they'd care to share? CPT and Ram loadings?

With the 120gr and 140gr loads, what respective fps are you trying to reach?

Great info guys - thanks a bunch.

I will admit - I've been seeking out loads all week and just had the recollection that I have one of those little spiral load-books for 6.5 Swede that came with a rifle one time... Dont'cha hate it when that happens?

I load both cartridges.
Your rifle will probably like either the 107 SierraMK or the 108 Lapua. I use a medium charge of a relatively fast powder, say in the 4895 range, (for low recoil and muzzle blast) and don't push for more than about 2500 fps. I try a few variations in powder charge for decent accuracy and call it a C-P-T load. Lots of powders will work fine.
For rams I try the 139 and 144 Lapuas to see which the rifle prefers with a near max load of slower powder.
Remember, we're shooting offhand. The point of all this is that I don't push for maximum velocity on the C-P-T load and I don't spend dozens of hours and half my barrel life trying to shrink the groups from 1 MOA to .7 MOA. Get you a reasonably accurate, light-kicking short line load and a heavy ram load and get after it. (The loads you were given here sound great. I'm just longer-winded than some.)

My Pal and I got the Century Swede Sporters some ten years ago. He worked up a load and had me start (my first try at reloading) at 37gn of IMR 4064 with the 140gn SMK. That load went under two inches for a five shot group at 200 yds. I have some other bullets to try someday, mainly the Norma 130 and some original 144 Lapua FMJ. We split a case of the old red box Lapua FMJ rounds and reloaded that wonderful brass.
