Norma TAC 22 vs SK Rifle Match

Ok, so there have been questions about how Norma TAC and Match ammo shoots. Today I compared the TAC 22 to the SK Rifle Match that I have been using for a while now. Here are the results. 25 rounds at 50 yards for each type of ammo. The barrel was cleaned and then "seasoned" before each type of ammo was tested.

SK Rifle Match

0.594" group for 25 shots

Norma Tac 22

1.169" group for 25 shots

So, as you can see, the Norma does not shoot as well as the SK in MY RIFLE. Your rifle could shoot it very well. It did show more promise out of my Ruger 77/22, but I did not have time to do a full test in that rifle.

Great analysis! Thanks. What rifle did you use for the test?

It's a new Anschutz project rifle I've almost got complete. I'll write up a review soon.

I wonder if that was TAC-22 Target or the Match?

This was the ammo that is labeled "Tac-22" not the one labeled "Match-22".

Norma Match 22 shoots much better for me. Lost o fliers in the TAC -22. I use it for 50 feet.

Nice comparison.

If you are testing ammo for rifle silhouette, you are wasting your time if the test isn't done at 100. Groups shot at 40 or 60 are different than the ones shot at 100. I saw that when my rifle was tested at the Lapua facility in AZ.

It's interesting how a rifle will show a definite preference for ammunition. When the wife's new lowall, from C Sharps got here, we just kept running it with the Sk Rifle match that her Miroku liked so well. She was really having trouble getting rams. So one day we got into the ammo locker and went to our 22 bpcr range and started testing on the ram swinger. Turns out that rifle really doesn't like the SK match and a couple of others, it shoots ok with Norma Match, but the ammo that would consistently make hits on that ram at 200 meters, was the Norma TAC..
Moral of the story , test your rifle with different ammo, and do it at the furtherest distance you plan to shoot.

What is that target software you are using to scan the results or are you calculating all of that?

I use a program called 'on target' It was written by Jeff from around the Denver area. It works great.

Why not share it with everyone instead of hoarding it?

I've recently update both of the OnTarget packages.

The original OnTarget program is focused on measuring groups. You scan or import an image of the target, place the aim point and bullet holes, and it calculates group size and extents. OnTarget Website

The OnTarget TDS program is geared more toward ammo testing. TDS can combine small groups into larger virtual groups and calculate more statistical data. In addition to group extents it calculates, standard deviations, circular error probable (CEP), sight adjustments, etc... OnTarget TDS Website

Let me know if you have any questions about either program.
