.22 LR Wood Ammo Box

Post by teetertotter »

Does anyone know who makes a small wood box with base that has 40 shallow drilled holes that would expose 1/4 of a loaded .22LR bullet? It would have to have a removable cover too. Would anyone like to make one for me? Fee amount? I do not have a drill press or a router to make. I might want qty 2 if price is right. ^:)^

Bob, thank you for your response. I will be locating a person that will want to make me a 50 round wood box with detachable hinged cover for a price. If price is right, maybe have em make 2. It would be 5 across and 10 rows down. I'll stain it myself.

I came across a fellow at our club, whom I know, that has metal and wood working equipment at his home hobby shed. I will be seeing him at our February club meeting and I will give him the hardware as he does have the maple wood to make. I will have a sketch for him too. Cost to be determined.

I have a friend in Germany doing this exact same thing. He's making them using a CNC machine. Interested? I'll email you some pics of his work.

Chuck.....my thinking would be the freight would be more than the product is worth. If costs do not exceed $50.00, I would want to look at it. Thank you for letting me know.

Dang it Teeter, what a neat idea for an ammo box..Just as soon as I finish my Rem 581S customising project that is going to be the next thing I do. I think I will make it to hold more rounds to allow for sighters/warm ups and just in case my rifle shoots another round better at 100 meters a separate section just for them. Good to see you here a steel chickens..Dave Deo Vindice (aka dbp1stltartillery on Rimfire forum)

tightwad, I talked to my friend a couple weeks ago and have decided to make 1 one hundred round box and 1 fifty round. He will cut the Maple, drill holes, and route out the top cover....etc. The hinge will be slide out type with hook cover fastener. He wants to see a little sketch from me more for the hole spacing and depth. I have not gotten around to it yet and will cost me a case of beer! A fellow that used to shoot with us and had a heart attack 2 years ago and still recovering, had one of these homemade wood boxes that he had for many years from another fellow. Nice to have you join us!

For awhile I considered making a lid for the ammo board I made, but decided the hinged lid would take up more bench space than it was worth. I never thought about having the lid on slide hinges - I may have to revisit that idea. One of the non-registered matches I shoot allows Cowboy rifle and also pistols, so I drilled out this board with 80 holes so I can shoot both...

Its Mother of Pearl - I decided last year that I needed to start developing a retirement skill. I figured with 15 years of practice I might have enough talent to inlay mother of pearl names and symbols in rifle stocks for the cowboy action crowd. :D Then I can travel the country to the big shoots in a motorhome cutting and carving along the way. I'm definitely not Instrument quality yet - I've got a long way to go before I tackle someones fancy grade wood stock...

The ammo board was my first project. My second one was cutting smaller silhouettes and inlaying both sides of my 39a forarm - here's a picture I took when I started developing and shooting black powder .22's - the lower left target was for accuracy check, the right is a fouling test, but thats another story altogether...
