Re: BKL #257 Rings inch- pound Torque ?
On their site they don't have a torque reccommendation for the rings, just the base. The base is 35 inch lbs. For the rings they say this:
How do I know when the scope tube is properly clamped?
When the oval shape of the ring becomes a circle around the scope tube and no gap is seen between inside diameter of the ring and the outside diameter of the scope tube. Important: Do not close the gap between the edges of the ring (the flat surfaces where the screws are) as this might crush your scope tube! Please refer to our technical data sheet for more information.
Do BKL scope mounts require lapping?
No. All BKL mounts are designed to eliminate the need for lapping. Stress relief slots in the base clamp and the thickness of the top clamps allow the mount to form around the scope tube rather than distort its roundness and alignment.

I've never seen a need to use more than 15 inch/pounds on rimfire rings. Also, that's 35 inch/pounds on the bases, not ft/lbs.

With steel rings you can go to 20 but 15 is about right for the aluminum ones. I'm not sure why you would want to go over 15.
Knowing the material and size of a screw, you can look up the torque requirement on the net.

For a rimfire, yes. Unless you're going to be literally throwing it into the floor of a truck often or have it on a super hard recoiling springer air rifle, the double-strap rings are overkill.

Medium BKL rings have worked well on both my CZ and my Anschutz 1712.
