Leupold Dot Sizes
Tired searching the forum but got tired of looking.
I have a Leupold VX-II 6x18 and want to change the duplex reticle to a dot, preferably a 1/2 MOA. Called Leupold and was told they have a .388 or a .667 dot. He said the larger dot was a little over 1/2" at 100 yards. I don't think this is correct. Would someone please set me straight? Thanks.

Re: Leupold Dot Sizes
That sounds right to me. A 1/2 MOA dot would be .5 inches at 100yards. A .667 dot would be 2/3 of an inch at 100 yards. In other words, the dot would be a little more than 1/8" larger than an 1/2 dot. Unless I'm missing something too.

Re: Leupold Dot Sizes
I have the .667 dots in 2 of my 6.5-20 efrs. I really like them. One of mine has the CPC and the dot. It is my favorite.

Re: Leupold Dot Sizes
It sounds like you want what the Leupold guy called the .667. It seems like Leupold has three dot sizes, .25, .338 and .667, that I think of as "can't see it", "just right" and "covers too much of the target", but your mileage will vary.

Re: Leupold Dot Sizes
Also keep in mind that we are talking about variable power scopes here. It is my understanding that the .0060 dot offered by Leupold substends roughly 3/8 MOA at max power (20x in an efr or 18x in your vx2). As a refrence you can compare with the .0020" dot called their 'target dot' and it's known as the 1/8 MOA dot... .0020(1/8 MOA) x3 = .0060 (3/8 moa). Granted on 6x that same dot WILl be roughly 5/8 moa (.0060").
Did that help?
Also I was told last week that they are now offering the following dots in EITHER a tapered['Leupold'] OR fine cross hair['Target'] configuration (for many years now they have only offered the 'leupold dot' in the larger sizes, now they are offering the larger dot sizes in the 'target dot' {i.e. dot on a fine wire})

.0060
