I dont like my BKL rings

Post by farmbo »

Purchased a set of 301 BKL rings for my 64Rbiathlon rifle. I cant get the scope far enough ahead for eye relief. Also dont like my scope sitting 1.5 inches high. Where do I look next? farmbo

I am happy with the Warne rings. Have a Weaver T24 in them with no issues.

Which BKLs do you ahve - the 257 or 257H? I have BKL 257Hs on my target and open air rifles, but they have an adjustable cheek piece. My small bore guns have screw-in bases and Weaver lightweight rings. They look more solid and might even be more solid.

farmbo, 257's would prbably suit your needs better than the 301's. Warne makes great rings but they are heavy.

If you're currently using BKL 301 rings, I'm assuming that you have a scope with a 30mm tube. That means that nothing in the BKL 200 series will work, as those are designed for 1" tube scopes. Those double-strap 301 rings, while being more secure, take up extra room that can contribute to lack of adjustment range for eye relief of your scope. If you want to get your scope forward more, you could try the BKL 374 offset rings instead. Assuming it's your adjustment turrets that are keeping the scope from being able to move forward enough, use the offset ring in the front to extend forward over the barrel, which should give you a lot more room. There isn't enough recoil on a 64R biathlon rifle to need the double strap rings. Note that this will still leave your scope fairly high, but it's nowhere close to 1.5" high. The bottom of the ring to the bottom of the scope tube will be right at 3/4" from memory. That will make the bottom of the scope tube to the top of the rifle's receiver less than that.

The warne are heavy as they are steel. I bought them for their weight as I needed to add center and rear weight to my rifle. It was too light. It was 7lbs. It is now 8lbs, 4 oz with added lead in the stock.

Ah, I like the product, that's all that matters, it's going on my rifle, not theirs.
