Canada Anyone?

Post by orangeblaster »

Hello all, I'm selling a scope on ebay and a potential buyer is asking for a quote for shipping to Canada. I listed as shipping to CONUS only but I'm curious and really want to get as much back on this scope as possible.

Are there any restrictions I should know about shipping a rifle scope to Canada? Thank you in advance if you have experience / knowledge.....

Hi Orange
I live in Canada and in February received a Leupold BR36 from a private
seller in Ohio. The red flags are raised with Canadian Border Service
I understand when items are described as 'tactical'. Even if the item you are shipping is not if there is an aroma of tactical it stands a good chance of being stopped and seized.
You should have no problem if it's a standard scope or target and you describe it as such. If it is something else describe it as target optical
equipment or scope. Your shipping shouldn't be any more than about
25-30US$ even if its express delivery.

I hope this helps
Andrew

The issue isn't with the Canadian Customs but withUS export regulations.
Some one found a vague reference to "optical sighting devices" on a commerce department form that mostly refers to nuclear and chemical mfg. components. Some items require a US export permit, which can only be gotten when applied for with a Canadian import document.

Anyways, most US companies are happy to send any scope that isn't considered to meet military specifications (ie."tactical", "sniper").

Major firearms components such as barrels, actions, triggers, ammunition and components require US export permits. But then again, how often does US mail inspect parcels leaving the country. Canada doesn't care (except for guns) what you bring in. As long as they get their cut (taxes).

Where in BC are you? Are you planning on the Provincials in Mission?
Just by chance do you know where the Nationals are being held this
summer? I've just finished four months of chemo treatment so I'm
working on getting some strength back and working on my position.
I'm doubtful if I'll be at Mission but maybe the Nationals.
Hope to hear from you.
Cheers

Andrew, if I tell you I won't be able to BS anymore. Not too far away though.

I don't know about the Provincial's. Maybe just the HP. However shooting at greatly reduced ranges kind of takes the thrill out of knocking over, or should I state trying to knock over, rams.

There's a "Tactical Rifle" match at Chilliwack I'm kind of interested in. Never played that game before. That's on the preceding wk end. Can't do everything.

What do you use for your Tactical shoots?
It just occured to me that we shouldn't stray too far from silo stuff here
or we might get told
Any idea about the Nationals? When and where?
Later

Nationals will be at Bull River this year (Cranbrook) July 1 -7. I don't think I'll be getting there either. :(
