Rules re Target Air Rifle

Greetings all,
the Target Rifle is defined in the rule book as follows:
“Any unaltered factory target air rifle designed for U.S. and International 10 meter competition. (i.e., as produced or sold by Anschutz, Beeman, Crosman, Daisy, Feinwerkbau, RWS, Steyr and Walther). Use of scopes or iron sights, including diopter sights is allowed. Any older gun may be brought up to current factory specifications using only factory catalogue barrel weights.”
However, comparing some marketing/catalogue pictures with rifles used in 10m competitions there are differences in some components, e.g., butt-plates, forearms, cheek-pieces, risers, etc. Does it mean that the rifle has been "altered" and thus does not comply with the definition?
If one purchased a used rifle, how does one ascertain if it is unaltered?
Kindest regards,
