Tx200 scope?

I’ve been reading about the tx200 air rifles. They sure look nice in a-lot of ways. I never have cared for the annoying recoil of them.

What about scoping one? I always understood that they were rough on scopes. Sort of hate to put one of my weaver microtrac scopes on and have it ruined. What’s been the experience here?

Yes, they are tough on scopes with the "double recoil". I've had a Weaver V-24 and Leupold M8 on mine with no problems, but lesser quality scopes might be at risk. Can't say if the older steel-tube Weavers are ok or not.

Also, if you haven't gotten a reduced-power spring for it yet (or a full tuning kit) you should consider looking into it. Straight from the factory they have too much power for our needs and dialing it back a bit will make it more pleasant to shoot.

Thanks Allen. I haven’t bought one just contemplating.

The quality scopes will usually hold up well. Leupold still warranties but finding an EFR with a large dot reticle will be pricey....

The TX isn't as hold sensitive as some but Alan is correct, having it tuned for silhouette will definitely help out with shooting it and scope life.

The Weaver company stated that their scopes were not for Springer type air rifles and that the warranty would not be honored if their scope was used on a Air Rifle. That tells me to not use a good never made again microtrac on a Sporter. My choice for the Tx and HW rifles are Leupold EFR's and surprisingly UTG.
Mrs. atomicbrh tried a Leupold on her sporter for a short time. Scores went down significantly. Put the UTG back on and scores immediately went back to normal. I talked to Weaver on the phone many years ago and the service person claimed their techs could easily tell if the micro Trac system had been damaged by Springer recoil because there would be certain tell-tale signs.
(Now someone will reply here they have been using a Weaver on a Tx since World War 2 and the Weaver factory did not know anything about their own scopes but this is what a Weaver employee from Georgia told me when the service center was in Georgia.)

You still have time to make the right decision and not buy one.

Some people really "bond" with a Springer. When you have one working correctly it is a unique experience much different than other silhouette rifles. The TX is the greatest bargain in silhouette right now when cost vs. quality is considered. The parts in the TX are more durable than any Open air rifle because Air Arms uses the correct steel and the correct hardening process for that steel.
We have Steyr LG100's open rifles where almost every internal part had to be remachined and heat treated because they were not heat treated properly at Steyr. We spend more money to get open rifles repaired and set up right than a new TX costs. To me it is just as frustrating to lose consistency in a pcp regulator as it is to lose consistency in a Springer mechanism.
pdeal, you have a pm.

Dustin, Don't discourage him. You know when pdeal takes that TX apart, he will not be able to resist working some kind of magic on it that we all might benefit from. His rings are ideally suited to the springers.

It took me awhile to find this old article by Todd Spotti at the Los Angeles silhouette club. It is one of the best articles about springer recoil and scope warranty.

Thanks for all that. I probably won't buy anything now anyway. I will read the article on the scopes.

I have several 10m guns including a fwb P700 and now an Anschutz 2002 ssp. I will probably just work with them for now.

I put a Hawke AIRMAX 13110 on my TX200. It's made for springers. It has a fine reticle with multiple aim points. That's handy for me as my chicken zero is the same for turkeys with Diabolo 8.44 grain .177 caliber pellets. A slight low hold for pigs and slight hold over for rams precludes the need to adjust the turret. I haven't noticed a problem after shooting over 2000 pellets.

My TX200 has the 12fpe spring. The shot is quite smooth but not quite enough to keep a pellet balanced on top of the scope turret during the shot.
I'm running a Sightron, works very well but I kind of want it back on my rimfire. Debating something cheaper to replace it.

I'll say this about the TX200:
I didn't want to like this rifle as much as I do. I bought it and while it was in the mail I bought a PCP. I probably shoot the TX200 5x as much.

My son Has a TX200 MK 1 -12 ft pounds - 22 years old now with a Leupold scope on it. Never a problem still shoots well and does a good job on the targets - knocks att of them over all the time. I use a an HW77 with. a swift air rifle scope -6-24 by 50mm for as many years with no trouble - holds zero fine. It too is a 12 ft and rifle and all targets hit go down. Springers can be tough to zero from the bench.

Spring guns are great, all you need are pellets... no dive bottles, air compressors, CO2 tanks etc... however, if your end all be all is a high air rifle silhouette score, then a pcp is a huge advantage. If you are like me, and only concern yourself with beating your own scores, then a spring gun is the way to go. The super consistent hold and follow through required, will only help with the other disciplines. A decent scope is a must have, but then I dont know any silhouette shooters who balk a ponying up for a good optic. Meopta makes an airgun scope in their meopro optika 5 series. I bought one of the 2.5-10× scopes. The reticle is the typical tacticool affair, but the central dot aiming point makes it seem less busy than it is.

I have been away from Silhouette for a while but still have all the gear from my Texas Silhouette upbringing.

IIRC there was some movement to allow PCP into the Sporter class. I certainly don't want to open that can of worms. Now, 10+ years later, is Sporter still a Springer only class or.....

Still have my TX. Leupold on it and no issues. No tune. Just need others up here in the freezing north to be willing to drop a few $$$ on an lowly Air Rifle. I think with the price of primers, the time might be right!!

Thanks!
