Perfect score in air rifle silhouette match?

Post by dustinflint »

Hoping to answer a question a few of us have been wondering:

I'm looking for perfect scores in Air rifle silhouette matches. Have you ever shot or seen shot a perfect score in any air rifle silhouette match (Sporter, Target or Open)? Only official matches please. If you know of any, who shot it and where?

Dustin,

Check out the following link. To qualify for a record the match has to be registered, record and long runs cannot be set in a approved match.

This link has listing for all of the silhouette records.
http://compete.nra.org/national-records.aspx

from what I see here are the scores for air rifle in a 40 shot registered match.
Open Bill Motl 39 x 40
Target Bill Motl 39 X 40
Sporter K STOLZENBERGER, DAVE IMAS, DENNIS DADIAN , BILL ROBINSON & Bill Motl 37 x 40

Thanks Paul, I have seen the records but that's not what I'm looking for. I just want to know if it has ever been done before at ANY approved match. I shot a perfect score a couple of months ago and another one this month and we are wondering if it's the only time it's been done. It doesn't seem likely but there are not a lot of people who shoot air rifle silhouette so it's possible.

Dustin,

I will see Pat Steiger, Bill Motl, and Larry Engle Saturday. I will ask them about this for you. It would not surprise me if Bill had done it, but like you I am not sure.

I don't think Bill has. He was the first person I thought would have done it.

Paul,

I believe that Long Run records can be set in any NRA sanctioned match. See NRA rule below:

17.5.1 Long Run National Records - National Records for Long Runs (consecutive hits on one type of
animal) may be set at any level of NRA Sanctioned Silhouette Competition (Approved or Registered
Tournaments).

Matthew Everingham shot a 40/40 in Brisbane (Queensland, Australia) a few years ago and I think he was using a Feinwerkbau P70FT.

Thanks. I've now heard of 5 perfect scores, all with open class rifles and all 40-shot matches. Bill Motl has one, Matthew has one and I have three. I need to get one in Sporter and Target now.

I edited it so now you both look dumb :p

And I now have 4 perfect scores, which is 4 more than any Steiger currently has and 4 more than Pat Steiger will ever have.
