Rule change on front sights

Post by Gator »

Have they allowed the front sight to now be an aperture?

Can't tell ya. I haven't downloaded an NRA rulebook in a while, but they are quite slow to update them on line.

Brent,
The round aperture is legal. Shoot with one last year at nationals.

I wonder how many people shot with an aperture at nationals last year? Anyone know?

Most of my rifles have the old nickle silver Rocky Mountain front sight and I didn't bother to change them. The aperture would definitely be better though.

Thanks for posting that. That's not bad for the first year. Maybe this year, I'll switch too, but that would take work... I'm lazy when it comes to lever guns.

I started using a aperture front site in all three guns last year and experimenting with different sizes. It did help me get the sight picture more on the center of the animal but finding the right diameter is tricky. Too big, can't find center, to small not enough light.
I'm going to continue with it for next season and will be able to shoot with the 22lr rifle at some winter outdoor silhouettes matches near my location to keep testing sizes.

i tried it and it was not for me. i had to much movement over the normal post front sight. i might play around with it again this winter.

I just downloaded the rule book. I do not see that the front sight non post aperture is permitted. you can have the aperture tube but the insert must be a post or fiber optic stick

Here is Al's post from last year for all the unbelievers out there. The rule book is not reprinted every year.

Thanks for the up date. Its unfortunate that rules aren't updated in the rule book.
