Pistol Cartridge Silhouette

Post by Bob259 »

Seems like this is getting more popular. I would like to know what everyone is shooting for this, caliber and make/model. Is the Marlin 1894 in .357 popular?

If so what loads and heads are you using.

Thanks in advance.

Marlin 1894, 32-20. 90 gr Sierra HP. AA2015BR powder for CPT.
100 gr. Hornady HPXTP, AA1680 powder. For Rams.
The reason for 2 loads. The AA1680 powder is too hot for chickens and pigs. Damages the targets. However, I make no sight adjustments. Hold on the leg of the chicken. Center of pig. Top of back on turkey. Center of Ram.

I shoot the same gun and use 21 gr or IMR 4227 and 240 gr lead RNFP for lever rifle matches at 50 - 200 mtrs. Its a pretty hot load for PC, where I've broken some chickens in the past.

For PC I use 8.3 gr of Unique with a 200gr RNFP lead bullet. Easy on the shoulders and chickens and accurrate

Marlin 1894 cowboy 32 H&R mag. I'm using my old Hunter pistol load (85gr hp/xtp over 10.2gr of H110.) When all those are used up, I've tested the 100gr hp/xtp over 9.4gr of 2400 1"@ 100M w/12x scope. For sights, Williams FP target mounted in front holes .050 aperature and a Lyman 17A AHB to be installed tomorrow. The reason I started with the .584 hight Lyman & it took 125 clicks up to get on chickens. Today with .484 hight Lyman took 75 clicks for chickens. Shot 31/40 9 rams to almost finish my last Grand Slam in for Cowboy Levers.

marlin 1894 in 357 using hp at 125 grns. Powder is 296 with 20 grns (remember to always work up to a load, your rifle may be different). The bullet is flat from chickens to rams. I move the point of aim up to the middle of the leg from the bottom of the legs at the other animals. Use a williams fp with a lyman 17a glob site. I use the tallest pin available. I use this pin sight on all the other lever guns I shoot.

Won A a couple of weeks ago with a 26/40 before changing the front site. I cannot wait to use the new sight on the 357.
