is .356 legal for CLA?

A neighbor has a .356 he wants to sell me - being "semi-rimmed" I think it might not be legal. So, I'm asking, is the .356 legal for CLA matches?
(won't hurt my feelings if you say no - I have a fine running 30-30, but its always nice to have an extra hog gun. And we seem to have a overly-large population of hogs this year)

It is defined as:

"The .356 Winchester is a semi-rimmed, bottle-necked, centerfire rifle cartridge which was designed for use in lever-action rifles."

From 3.1.3 1 of the Silhouette Rule Book:

"Any lever action center fire rifle .25 caliber or larger
with a tubular magazine of original manufacturer or
replica thereof. A rimmed case loaded with a round
or flat nosed bullet must be used."

So I would say it's not legal for Silhouette.

Form cases for the 356 from 444 marlin.
Would seem to me if the 444 a "legal" cartridge, the 356 and 307 would be too..

There are reasons why many cartridges are obsolete. Most just don't perform well.

"The .356 Winchester is a rimmed cartridge developed for the Winchester Model 94 XTR A.E carbine. Marlin also chambered the Model 336ER for it."
( Cartridges of the World 14th Ed.)
Really can't see any problem with it being "legal" for the sport.

356 Winchester - Semi-rimmed, surely.
Which puts it in the same basket as the 308 Marlin Express, along with the same doubt about eligibility.

Not sure why any one would label the 356 or the 307 a "semi rimmed" cartridge.

Google it. The manufacture describes it as:

"The .356 Winchester is a semi-rimmed, bottle-necked, centerfire rifle cartridge which was designed for use in lever-action rifles."

Umm , the only place I've seen it described as a semi rimmed is on Wikipedia. Every thing else from the time they first introduced it up until a couple of years ago has called it a rimmed case.
Still begs the question, if the 444 marlin is a legal case, why not the 356/307, both use identical rims and web diameter.

And as CLA is NRA sanctioned, then it would seem that the NRA would be the final determination.. and as clear in this article in the Amercian Rifleman, the 356 is described as "rimmed".

What is a semi-rim? It only goes 1/2 way around the case? If it projects all the way around it is a rim, no? I hate vocabulary issues.

We've been down this road before about this time last year with the 308 Marlin Express and I won't traverse that ground again.

See that thread for definitions of rimmed and semi-rimmed.

So what did the silhouette committee determine last year?
Seems like verbal symantecs with rimmed and semi rimmed. As the only difference between the two types is how far past the case body the rim extends.
