357 loads

Post by glen ring »

I'm planning to use my new Marlin 1894c for CLA and PC so I'm trying to work up a couple of differnt loads.

I've been shooting Nosler 180 grains over hodgdon 110 and it seems to do well at 100yards and hits very hard.

The other load is a speer 160grain jsp over hodgdon 110 and it seems very accurate at 100yards.

I mounted a scope on the 1894c today and if the gusting Oklahoma wind will die this week, I'll know how well the loads group.

glen and bob,

I use 20 grns of 296 with 125 grn remington or speer jsp bullets. Super flat trajectory and never a problem knocking over the rams. This load is for PC and is fairly hot so as always start lower and work up to it in your rifle.

loads for 357

Post by glen ring »

Today was cold and almost no wind. The Speer 160 grain bullet over H110 shot into a group about three and one half inches at 100yards. The Nosler 180 was about the same, but the POI was a few inches lower.
I think I'll try these loads on the 200yard ram to see if they'll take it down.

357 loads

I tried cci blazer 38 special +p 158grain tmj today in my 1894c. 50 yard groups were about and inch and a half. I tried some fedreal 357magnum 158 grain jhp. 100yard groups around two inches. This 357 Marlin seems to like the 158 grain bullets.

Hornady 140grain lead bullets over HP38, about a three inch group at 50 yards. Hornady 140 grain xtp over HP38 about the same.

load for 1894c

Post by glen ring »

A near max. load of H110 under the Nosler 180 grain , Non-Expanding , flat point seems to be a good solid load.
I haven't shot a match with this load and I'mhoping it will do the trick out to 200 yards on the cla rams. I may try this set-up neaxt month in pistol cartridge to make sure it doesn;t damage targets.

For the pistol cartridge match, be careful about target damage. Some of the loads listed are TOUGH on the targets. A .22 mag will normally knock the targets down, a light load out of the .38/.357 will do the job and it does not recoil. Try some of the bulky powders to fill the case and shoot a a pleasant rifle.
