What do you think of the 30-30

It seems that most people do shoot the 30-30.
There are however some that shoot 45-70, 38-55 45 colt and even 357. My wife and I love our 38-55's plenty of knock down with less recoil thatn the 30.

Another couple of votes for the .38-55. Slow and heavy gets the job done every time with very little recoil.

The 30-30 dominates the list mostly because of the easy availability of them but if you find a 38-55 in a 26" barrel jump on it. Add 45-70 to that short list too.

I just can't imagine shooting 80+ rounds with a .45-70 in one day at a state or regional match without a nerve block.

All the chamberings mentioned will work. The vast majority are shooting 30-30. You don't even have to reload for it. Factory ammo is plenty accurate and cheap.

If you are recoil shy... ymmv.

30-30 is pretty hard to beat. 38-55 is good also if you are are a bit recoil sensitive. 30-30 will preform better in the wind also. Mike

30-30 to me is the best. you can down load for the first three for a easy match.

30-30 Rifles are easy to find and (relatively) cheap to buy. No muss no fuss - sweet and neat. Buy your ammo at WallyWorld and you are good to go.

38-55 is perhaps a little reverse snobbery. Kinda like shooting a longbow rather than wheel bow. Good rifles are a little harder to find but It's an easy cartridge to reload - IMO Less felt recoil and a 260 gr. fp lead bullet falls heavy onto those sticky rams.
