Strange Marlin 39-A

Centerfires, rimfires, pistol cartridges and everything in between.

Strange Marlin 39-A

Post by TheBugFather »

Any insight is great!

I have a strange 39-A that is missing the "A" on the barrel. The "C" serial number comes up as 1946
Wondering if anyone else has seen something like this. It has a ramp front sight like the newer rifles, but it is dovetailed into the barrel. How do I take it off to put a 17a. Strange flip down rear sight and of course missing the "A", but I see a dash. No rear scope holes, only the two on the front top of the receiver and the two, I guess near the flip down sight.

Thanks, Dennis O.

I believe that is actually a Generation 3 or 4, Model 3. Just prior to the change to the 39-A models. Not sure of the Generation but look like the last one before the model switch.

Drift out your front sight and use that dovetail for your 17A.

Thanks Tim!
Looks like they just started up production from after the war.

I just guessing but the rear sight looks like a replacement from some other model.
The squared Vsight more like back then.
How about a full length picture of the rifle? Please!
