old 1894 Marlin in 44-40 rechamber to 44 special

Post by TheBugFather »

Any thoughts if this is a good Idea?

The gun is from 1895 but I'd like to use it in competition at the 200 Meter targets subsonic.

I like the idea of a straight wall case and less case capacity.

Or even with all this talk about relining the barrel, relining for 44 special if it would pass the smell test.

Otherwise I would go back to 44-40, only trouble is it uses the .426 bullets and I'd like to use .429 jacketed bullets.

Thinking of using a Lee sizer die to squeeze them down to .426 or .427, or am I over thinking it too much?

Thanks, Dennis

I picked up (by chance, not that I needed yet another PC rifle) an Uberti in 44spl the other day....

Obviously bullets are a limiting factor trying to find quantities of what I want but it looks like it'll shoot 180 XTP's lights out.

Targets look funny because that is a giant hole.... lol
