25-20 loads

Post by cslcAl »

I just picked up a MArlin 94 CL in 25-20. I did some load testing today with 86 gr. Remington's and IMR 4198. 10.5 grs. seemed to shoot pretty well. Aynone using 75 gr. Speers? How about some pet loads? Thanks,

Al,

Not trying to hijack your thread, but I could use some input on 32-20 loads myself.

32-20 25-20

Post by dan222 »

HI AL AND GTS,
when i was shooting pistol silhouette, shooting 32-20, my standard load was 100gn, lead bullet, with 5gns of win 231, would take any animal down with no problem to 100 meters. also, with the 32-20, shooting a 165gn lead bore riding bullet, with 10gns of h4227, we used to shoot the long range animals out to 200 meters, they fell slow, but sometimes you ring one or two, and this is all done with a t/c 10" barrel.
i used to shoot the 25-20 in a t/c 12" barrel, and that was one sweet cartidge, but i can not find my load data for it, other than i was shooting 75gn bullets. if you go over to the ihmsa silhouette board and shout out "19 turkeys" he could give you a lot of good 25-20 data.
good shooting guys........dan

GTS, I have a 32-20, and 5.5 grs. of Unique with a 100 gr. Hornady XTP works real well. Al

G'Day All
The Bear is waiting for his email confirmation so when he comes online he has been doing some work with a 1894cl in 25/20. I got his 32/20 off him and am doing a bit of work myself so I'll keep you all posted.

I got to do some testing and I have settled on 5.5grs. of Unique with a 75 gr. Speer. I shot a .75 in. group at 50 meters with the peep sights.
That'll work Thanks, Al

G'Day
10 shots with the 32/20 13grns 4227, Lyman 311316 mold, Federal primer. 9 shots 1720fps +/- 10fps into .940, 1 shot clocked 1800 and went 1 1/2" high. Williams FP and 1/16 firesight on the front. Found my load, might be a bit fast for some but you don't drive a v8 with two plug leads off do you. Tried 5.5 unique 1 1/4" for 5 shots.

R-slammer, That looks like good accuracy and velocity. Don't forget that in this game you only have to knock the targets down, not kill them. Don't be suprised if you get told about damaging targets. I too have found good grouping higher velocity loads, but I know I can't use them. Al F.

G'Day cslcAL
I'll also be using the 32/20 for sneaking around of a arvo knocking off the odd Wallaby. We are only just starting out with Cowboy here in Australia and there is only a few of us trying to work a lot of stuff out. The Bear is one of the main ones working on loads etc but he couldn't get registered for some reason. His wife Kathy is on here as the Bugle so if you pm her you might get some 25/20 loads. I'm just glad the Bear got his going so he'd sell the 32/20.
