TYPICAL PRARIE WINDS OF 10-15 MPH CHALLENGED(tormented)TEN SHOOTERS ON JUNE 2&3 2007 FOR THE STATE HP CHAMPIONSHIP. SOME PRETTY GOOD SCORES WERE POSTED INSPITE OF THE CONDITIONS. THE FOLLOWING NAMES WON THEIR CLASSES. STANDARD RIFLE STATE CHAMPION LEE ONEIL 53/80.....1ST AAA JIM GOODNIGHT 45/80.....2ND AAA BOB MC ALICE 45/80....1ST AA ED PABST 40/80. I FAILED TO MENTION IN MY EARLIER POST THAT OUR MATCH WAS HELD AT THE COLORADO RIFLE CLUB. THIS IS A PREMIER MULTI DISCIPLINE SHOOTING FACILITY ON 2100 ACRES LOCATED NEAR THE TOWN OF BYERS , 60 MILES EAST OF DENVER.

HI KEVIN P, YES, WE HAVE SHOT A FEW SB MATCHES TOGETHER AT AURORA AND BUFFALOE CREEK IN THE PAST. WHY WAIT TILL SOMEDAY TO TRY HP? YOU SHOULD CONSIDER TRYING AT LEAST ONE MATCH AT CRC THIS SEASON. SB RIFLE,ALL THE DIFFERENT HAND GUN SILHOUETTE DISCIPLINES, AIRGUN, BPCR, AND COWBOY LEVER SILHOUETTE ARE ALL SPINOFFS OF THE ORIGINAL HP RIFLE GAME DATING BACK TO THE 1920S & 30S. YUP, IT HAS BEEN AROUND A LONG TIME. RECOIL IS NO BIG DEAL EITHER EVEN IF YOU HAVE A LIGHTLY PADDED VEST. TELL YOU WHAT, I WILL LET YOU USE ONE OF MY RIFLES, EITHER A REM 700 .308 OR RUGER M77 7X57 BOTH WITH LEUPOLD 6.5 20X. (i shot my personal best 33x40 with the ruger)I WILL GIVE YOU ENOUGH AMMO FOR SOME PRE-MATCH PRACTICE AND A 40 SHOT MATCH. WE SHOOT THE 1ST SUNDAY EACH MONTH AT CRC , WEATHER PERMITTING. NEED A LITTLE MORE ENTICEMENT? WELL THERE IS NOTHING QUITE LIKE SLAMMING A REACTIVE METAL ANIMAL TARGET WITH A HIGHPOWER RIFLE BULLET AND SENDING IT CRASHING TO THE GROUND! WHO KNOWS......MAYBE YOU WILL BE SHOPPING FOR A NEW HP RIFLE INSTEAD OF THAT 54 YOU HAVE YOUR EYE ON. PS.....HAPPINESS IS A SAFE FULL OF......HIGHPOWERS. BOB M.

You should write advertising copy, cause you have me sold.

And wonderful offers to boot! Have I said Silhouette shooters are the most generous?

SORRY.........DIDNT MEAN TO GET THE TROOPS EXCITED. JUST SAW AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET ANOTHER RECRUIT INTERESTED IN THE GREATEST SHOOTING GAME EVER DEVISED BY MAN. SURE BEATS THE HECK OUT OF ANY PAPER PUNCHING GAME. SERIOUSLY THOUGH, THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE SHOOTING HP SILHOUETTE IS IN DECLINE. WE HERE IN COLORADO HAVE LOST ABOUT HALF OF OUR SHOOTERS IN THE PAST 15 YEARS,WITH NO YOUTH FILLING IN THE BLANKS. ANYONE GOT ANY THOUGHTS ON HOW TO GET SHOOTERS INTERESTED IN THIS GAME AGAIN? WE IN CO. HAVE TRIED SEVERAL APPROACHES WITH LITTLE TO NO RESULTS. MAYBE WE NEED TO REVISIT THE SILHOUETTE EXCITEMENT OF THE 1970S THRU NEW MAGAZINE ARTICLES IN THE AMERICAN RIFLEMAN, SHOOTING TIMES, G&A ,ETC. USING TODAYS CURRENT SELECTION OF FIREARMS AND OPTICS,. ETC. LETS HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS SUBJECT. BOB M.

I think that's exactly the answer.

The NRA should/could be doing a lot more to promote each and every one of the shooting disciplines in their magazines.

What we're doing (besides this website  ) is similar. We've been writing articles and submitting them to local Sportsman's clubs for publishing in their newsletters, etc... Then share the articles so other clubs can use them as well. Wouldn't be too bad to try and get newspaper "sports" sections to try and do the same (depending on your locale I suppose).

Heh.. I can just imagine how the call would go if I tried to submit a story on silhouette shooting for inclusion on the sports pages of our major newspapers out here in liberal western Washington, Mike..

Oh, I agree. I was thinking you have a shot at the Tacoma Tribune and perhaps the surrounding local papers like Chehalis/Centralia, South King Journal (although I heard they folded), etc... The major rags would turn it into a hit piece.

I could see the headline, "Local Gun Nuts Practice Animal Sniping at Life Size Silhouettes"
