hey fellas, figured i'd introduce myself.my name is Marty Dabney from Virginia. I am currently an across the course service rifle shooter but I have had an interest in high power silhouette and ran across this forum while researching. I spend roughly 100 days a year competing or practicing and the rest of the time dry firing so I am looking for something different during the off season to break it up a little.thanks for having me

Marty
I started out shooting across the course matches while in the Army in 1968. Let me warn you that silhouette shooting is addicting. I haven't shoot an across the course match in several years now. I prefer the challenge of offhand shooting but also I can no longer shoot prone because age related issues.

thanks guys. if all goes well i'm going to my first match the first Saturday in October. I love offhand and i'm hoping shooting silhouette will help out my offhand for Across the Course.

Yes, welcome Marty--I shoot XTC also. I shot silhouette many years before XTC and I can say it will help your OH in XTC. I think any OH shooting is good practice---Schuetzen, silhouette both small bore and high power, air rifle or smallbore indoor 50', it's all good. Roger, another member here runs a small bore silhouette postal that is good practice also--it should be coming up.

Welcome aboard! As has been mentioned, be careful with starting up silhouette to help another shooting sport. Like many others, I did that and ended up ditching the other sports and now only shoot silhouette matches, with a very rare Steel Challenge match with a friend thrown in just for fun on a nice day.

Marty D,
Just like the others, I want to welcome you to our little family.
The addiction bug hits hard sometimes with this family of sports!

Good luck in your October match.
Is there a Silhouette range nearby or do you have to travel to it?
Either way, where is there silhouette shooting that you will participate in?

i live about an hour or so from Cavalier rifle and pistol. I've shot a few of their vintage military silhouette matches with my 03A3 and shoot a few service rifle matches a year there. it's a nice range and I know a few of the members there

Marty D.
That's great!
We have at least 1 other member from VA on here - Boats.
I'm not going to say where in VA he is - that's not my function.
Maybe the 2 of you know each other - or need to!

Good Shooting
